I think it's fair to say that is on both sides of the fence. It's the nature of college football: You have some trolls, you have some decent posters.
But I guess, if you jump into that fray and sink to that level, it's seems... hypocritical to feign innocence after that fact.

I was one of them. And it had nothing to do with the Belt's members, it had (and still has) to do with the same thing college football is about: $$.
Same reason your school is leaving: If the SBC had the same Television Contract and Bowl Tie-ins that CUSA had, I'd bet dollars to donuts, your school would still be here.
We've never made it a secret that CUSA was our goal. Dollars to donuts same TV contract & bowl tie-ins, we'd still want to move. More regional conference for us with teams we are more familiar with. Tulsa, Rice, UTEP, Tulane, Tech & UTSA as division mates ain't bad.
Yup looking at that list of Texas teams you guys should fit in real well. Question is which one of you will have the worst record year in and year out?
You should probably concern yourself with how Texas State will do rather than speculate about others.

I've never realized how clsoe those schools are to Denton until I just had a map of good ole Dixie in my head. While those schools aren't big draws, neither is FAU, FIU, UL, stAte, etc... So might as well have schools that are closer for more natural rivalries. For me, I LOVE the teams in the SBC, and in brutal honesty, the only teams that you listed that I'd be interested in are UTSA and UTEP. With respect, the others don't tickle my fancy one bit. Maybe that is because I haven't done enough research on them, or because of their location and their competition amongst larger schools in their state.
Either way, best of luck in your last year in the SBC, and even better luck in CUSA!

This is one Mean Green fan that would like to see Texas State in CUSA with us. Maybe in the next realingment go around, In the meantime we had an OOC game scheduled against Tulsa for the next few years. Now the game is a confernece game, so we have an opening. I'd like to see UNT and Tx State series fill that void.

I'd love to play UNT every season. All jokes aside I think they would be a nice program to build a rivalry with.

Yes! Right after BOBCATS! ;0) Top 3 are:
1. Bobcats
2. Ragin' Cajuns
3. Armadillos (Fighting Optional)
I like that 2 of the top 3 belong to TX ST!

RE: Texas State Should Change Their Nickname
It's a damn shame that Texas State hasn't made the jump until now, as we are leaving. Just Too late to the party. We, (North Texas) could have really used you guys in our conference the last few years. I would understand the animosity toward us for leaving just as you are arriving, but Texas State would have done the same in our position, and until we decided on CUSA, it seemed the UTSA/TXST package wasn't going to join the SBC anyhow.
We've long wanted more regional opponents, and haven't been shy about it. We also haven't been shy about our denial of the WAC. The SBC is a good conference, and would have been a nice home if only there was one other team that people in DFW cared about. That isn't a dig at Monroe, Lafayette, Troy, Ark St. It's just the view from casual college football fans in this area. They are generally dumb to the facts that those teams are in the same division at UT, OU, A&M. It's less of an issue with La Tech, UTEP, Tulsa, Rice.
My wife (OU grad) didn't even know there was a UTSA, or where TXST was. She had heard of South West Texas State, but didn't realize it was the same school. Doesn't mean she's not a college football fan, it just means that: 1. Shes a girl 2. Grew up in DFW and 3. Went to a Big12 school. I use her as my indication of what the majority of those that attend those schools think about other schools. I hate that we are going to have to explain to people that UTSA is now in our conference and not in FCS anymore (Also called DII or DI-AA to most of those people). I think Texas State would have been easier to explain on the basis that they have had a football team longer. Doesn't mean I don't think UTSA belongs in CUSA, they will be a great fit, I just think it's a shame that Texas St couldn't have moved up years ago and been in our conf. as well.
The more regional, the merrier IMO.

Hey buddy, I used to work in Gruene for a while back in the day. Great place. Still try and make it down from DFW at least once a year.
