Ahh, got'cha. They're trying to do the same thing in Jackson. Jackson is a hellhole and they're trying to annex people that moved because they DIDN'T want to be in Jackson for their money and offer them not a damn thing.
For your sake, I hope Jackson doesn't get Byram. If that happens, you can move down the road a little ways to Crystal Springs where I live. It's not that bad once you get use to it. It'll be a hell of a lot better than being a part of Jackson.

hbrite....just the fact that you're "attempting" an arguement against an awesome city like Oxford makes you lose credibility. I've lived in both....and though, I have nothing negative at all to say about Hattiesburg....Oxford is far and away a classier place. Hell-fire, on game days in Hattiesburg...its no different than normal.....Oxford is buzzing and looks like grand central station the day before Christmas. There really is no comparison here.
That being said, as a golfer, I enjoyed the Hattiesburg experience thoroughly....great golf courses.

Oh, I got completely out of the state when I joined the military. My family and friends live there though. I live in Augusta, Georgia, home to a small little golf tournament known as the Masters and Ft. Gordon, home of the Signal Corps. :D

Reb32 Wrote:RebelKev Wrote:Reb32 Wrote:You are completly missing(are not listening) to my point. They have moved the city limits in Hattiesburg almost to Belvue and that is why it's showing the high percentage of whites. There is no way of telling but I would wager that east of I-55(where USM is located) is mostly black. If you look at Jackson's ratio on paper, it will show a higher percentage of whites. The city of Jackson itself is about 85% blacks.
They're trying to annex Byram, my hometown. The thinking of the people in Byram is, "If they can't fix their own sh*t, why in the hell do they want to mess us up as well?" The reason is obvious, they want the money to pay for all of the handouts to the Democrat constituency in Jackson.
Byram is planning on incorporating.
As for I-55 and USM, you lost me there. You mean Hwy 49?

Dude ,do you understand that Hattiesburg is bigger now? I know ta you know that we have blacks so what who don't. Are you racist or something? Regardless the city of Hattiesburg in mainly white on paper and reality. It does not matter that the city limits moved or not , the fact remains it's hattiesburg now.In your arguement you did not metion east of I59 until you got put in your place. I have and am not talking about what the city looks and is like on Gamedays, What about the other 8 months of the year.....Hattiesburg is a far better place to live instead of that hillbilly tyown of drugheads and rednecks....

And Oxford has been described my many, many publications as the art and culture mecca of the entire south.
Hattiesburg is much like 100's of cities across the country...nothing, absolutely nothing sets it apart from cities like Southhaven, Tupelo...just to name a few in-state.....just Starbucks, Lowe's and other chains popping up everywhere.....Oxford is an original.

Man a couple of you Ole Miss guys sounded racist during this thread. Talking about Hattiesburg and Jackson being "black" towns as if there is something wrong with the African American people who live in those respected towns.

Racist or bigotted? I'm very bigotted, but I do not feel my race is superior. I am not a racist. I go by values and politics alone. I want no liberals moving in to my area whatsoever, be they black, white, yellow, green, or chartreuse. I.e., I don't want free-loaders period. Send all the successful black people that are conservative to my neighborhood that you want. No problems here.
