They dont put a ton of money into baseball and its traditionally one of the worst ACC programs. Plus they just lost their coach to Michiagn so its good time to let it die.

Earlier article listed 8 sports under the gun: all three men’s track teams (indoor track and field, outdoor track and field, cross-country); men’s and women’s swimming and diving; men’s tennis; women’s water polo; and aerobics and tumbling (former known as competitive cheer).

It is simple while they do make more money from TV and the like the one thing that seemingly NOBODY here ever talks about is that they pay many times more to get the same thing as the smaller conferences. If Maryland wants to be at 8 wins they need to pay many times over what a CUSA and MAC team would just to get the same number of wins or even for the same exact coach. While the additional money helps keep these schools generally better than schools from "lesser" conferences they still essentially spin their wheels when it comes to how they succeed to their relative competition.

A MAC team will pay say 100K for a coach. That same coach may get 1,000,000 at a big conference school for getting the same exact results. They do this because the most powerful schools in their own conferences spend that much and so THEY must spend that much even if it does not actually help them win more. This is also why even though a team may change conferences and make more from a TV contract they may not be making that much more in reality because chances are that conference will essentially force them to pay more for everything.
