Sun Belt Uses First Multi-Channel HD Replay System in College Football
SBC Media Relations Link

NEW ORLEANS and ORLANDO - XOS Digital, Inc., a global provider of sports video technology, today announced that it is providing the Sun Belt Conference with the first conference-wide multi-channel replay system in high-definition for college football. XOS will implement the system for the Sun Belt Conference in time for the 2012-2013 college football season. The announcement was made today by Chris McCleary, XOS Digital's CEO, and Sun Belt Commissioner Karl Benson.

The Sun Belt Conference's transition from standard definition to the XOS HD ReplayTM system for football will provide a higher video quality to support efficiency in the officials' review process. XOS Digital developed the system using the core multi-channel technology found within its Hurricane slow-motion instant replay system, which college teams use for in-venue live production.

"XOS Digital's HD replay technology will significantly enhance our replay officials' ability to provide more accurate reviews," said Don Lucas, Sun Belt Coordinator of Football Officials. "Leveraging the highest video quality available to improve our ability to provide the best review possible is of the utmost importance to our conference."

"Providing our officials with this technology will mean that the Sun Belt Conference is on the cutting edge when it comes to instant replay in collegiate football," Benson said.

XOS HD Replay features an integrated paging system for on-field communication, production-quality video cards, and automated video and data export capabilities from the system to media delivery platforms. For the Sun Belt Conference, the system's multiple HD channels will provide officials with direct access to multiple camera angles. Overall, it provides for five channels of record and playback.

"The goal is to enable Sun Belt replay officials to make more accurate reviews, more quickly than ever before," McCleary said. "We are committed to providing advanced video technologies to the sports market, and take pride in our innovative replay solutions."

XOS Digital has developed custom, sports-specific replay solutions for nearly a decade. In addition, nearly 125 sports teams within football, basketball and hockey use XOS replay systems. For more information, visit http://www.xosdigital.com.

Maybe we can loan these to UAB for our match-up with 'em this go around. Since they can't seem to afford their own, it'd be helpful to avoid another "mistake" by their C-USA homecookin' officials this season.

They will still get it wrong. I have seen some of the worst calls in football from our crews.

Wish they could loan some HD cameras to CSS, a Comcast-owned company 03-banghead

Wish we had waited a year. Sun Belt has always purchased the cameras and paid for installation and wiring. FIU and UNT in 12 1/2 months are going to be the proud owner of at least two permanently mounted goal line high def cameras with a full wiring setup for delivery of I think five camera HD lines (2 goal line, 2 end zone, one press box) to the replay official booth.

On the upside, unless C-USA upgrades their replay equipment they will have to down-convert the feeds.

Its all part of the farewell package the conference generously gives each departing member.

Yeah, I agree. It sucks we are going to give UNT and FIU these cameras on our tab. We should be giving them to dedicated Sun Belt programs only.

I guess GSU doesn't need this stuff since Arthur Blank and the NFL already have cutting edge stuff in the Dome.

But I hope TXST doesn't get left out. This sounds like some pretty cherry equipment.

Will the equipment be paid for with funds from 2013-2014 or funds collected 2012-13 and prior years? Unscrewing stuff could be dangerous as well, pull the wrong screw and our stadium could come tumbling down. 01-lauramac2 Besides, the new members don't want hand me downs anyway .

Unless they've had a change of heart, C-USA makes the members pay for their equipment out of their athletic department revenue. C-USA just tells them what to buy.

I think UAB got their stuff second hand 05-stirthepot

That is very nice, but hardly a budget buster. But still, good job SBC!
