How many games will we win this year?
coming off a 7-6 campaign, and loosing relatively few pieces, though some of them big, I see us getting 7-8 wins with an outside shot at 9.
@WVU - L
WCU - W
Ohio - W
@Rice - W
@Perdue - T
Tulsa - W
@USM - L
UCF - W
Memphis - W
@UAB - W
Houston - T
@ECU - T
Just the way I see it.
-------------
How do you guys see this season turning out?

RE: How many games will we win this year?
For me, it's really tough to pick out some W's and L's this season because of key coaching / player turnover at CUSA programs like USM, Tulsa and Houston. Based on our performance last year and squeaking out wins when we needed to, I think the team is starting to really buy in to Doc's program. With that being said, here's my list:
@WVU - L
WCU - W
Ohio - W
@Rice - W
@Perdue - T leaning toward W
Tulsa - T leaning toward L
@USM - T leaning toward L
UCF - W
Memphis - W
@UAB - W
Houston - T leaning toward W
@ECU - T leaning toward L

RE: How many games will we win this year?
I think its a 7-8 win regular season, but since that wasn't an option, I went with what I think is likely, and 8-4 season.

RE: How many games will we win this year?
yeah, i decided to split 7 & 8 because I thought it was going to be the top choice and wanted to separate the weak 7-8 (ie those who think 7 is more likely) from the strong 7-8 (8 more likely).

RE: How many games will we win this year?
@WVU - W (Doc's last chance to say "in your face")
WCU - W
Ohio - W (Can't let a MAC team beat at the Joan)
@Rice - L (Have never won in Texas and Rice will be top 3 in the West)
@Perdue - W (Rice beat them last year)
Tulsa - L (they will be #1 in the West)
@USM - L (payback from last year)
UCF - W (No defector beats us this year)
Memphis - W (blow outs each time Memphis has visited)
@UAB - L (They will be better and have a new coaching staff)
Houston - W (no Texas team has ever won at the Joan)
@ECU - L (tough to win there and we've never done it)
7-5 (4-4) Tied for 3 in the East
Win our bowl for 3rd straight win and 8-5 overall

I agree UAB should be improving but no way do we lose to them this year. I get a potential loss to Rice due to our Texas curse but top 3 in the West? Am I missing something about a Rice improvement? They're typically CUSA West bottom feeders.

RE: How many games will we win this year?
Ill say 7-8 games, based on last year we lost some games we shouldn't have and won so games we shouldn't.(On paper anyway) so its hard to chose for me which ones.

Rice has finished 2nd in the West twice since arriving in CUSA is is better than us. We haven't won yet in Texas so I'll stand by my GUESS. :)
I have us going 5-1 at home and 2-4 on the road, which is fairly normal for non-AQ teams. If we lose to both WVU and Purdue, them I expect Doc to find the wins somewhere else. However, for us to expect 10 wins this year would be green-glasses optimistic if you ask me. JMO.

RE: How many games will we win this year?
Optimistic - 10-2 (Only Losses WVU and So. Miss)
Pessimistic - 3-9 (Only wins WCU, Memphis, and UAB)
Realistic is smack dab in the middle 7-5
Our schedule breaks down into 4 tiers:
0-3 vs Very Tough - @ WVU, Tulsa, @ So. Miss
2-1 vs Pretty Tough - Ohio, UCF, @ Purdue
2-1 vs Average - @ Rice, Houston, @ ECU
3-0 vs Easy - WCU, Memphis, @ UAB
I think we lose @ ECU, WVU, Purdue, So. Miss, and at home to Tulsa.

RE: How many games will we win this year?
Just an interesting trivia note: Tulsa is the only west team ever to win at the Joan and the only west team in CUSA we have not beaten.
I am betting we will break the Texas curse this year and beat Rice and will finally beat UCF in CUSA.
I'm guessing 7-5.

That schedule is competitive, I don't see a "day off" game on it at all. From what I've been hearing about your defense, 8-4 sounds like a strong possibility. Naturally, I don't have you guys beating UAB ;-D, but Marshall's had our number in recent years, I cannot overlook that. But, I do have the Herd taking out West Virginia & going to a nice bowl game this year.

What's this "Texas Curse" I keep reading about? Now that you mention it, UAB has an "Oklahoma Curse", for I can't recall ever beating Tulsa, let alone the Sooners (we had them and that referee screwed us on that fumble play!) &/or Cowpokes. Is there any team in Conference USA that Marshall has yet to beat in football? I think in our case, Tulsa for sure, and I'm guessing SMU & Houston, too. We exorcised our "Mississippi Demon" 3 years ago, because USM was taking UAB "down thru there" for almost a decade.

Marshall has never won a game in Texas. We are 0-9 in Texas, 0-8 in conference play and lost the 2004 Fort Worth Bowl to Cincy.
Im going to go with 7 wins and if we win our bowl game we will have 8 to end the season.
