A centrist is someone who takes left of center on as many issues as he or she takes right of center positions. For a true centrist, the number of both left-of-center and right-of-center positions, but we have relaxed that definition a bit to include those who take some positions on each side but balance the two. Chuck Todd (and Max) take left of center positions on some issues but don't take right of center positions on any. I'm not even aware of any where Max takes centrist positions.
No, Fox is FAR right of center and takes its daily talking points straight from the Republican National Committee which it harps 24/7. CNN is centrist or slightly left of center. MSNBC is far left of center from 5-10pm weekdays, and slightly right of center from 5-8am. The rest of the time it's run by the NBC news department which although is probably left of center I think it's fair to say makes a deliberate effort to be centrist.
The media is not out to get the GOP, and conservatives who spread the "liberal media" meme are trying to work the refs. Dan Rather was just talking about this on the Daily Show yesterday. Most in the media start out doing crime beats and see the Dickensian side of American society, and when they try to expose that they're branded as big government liberals.
I've seen a lot of Chuck Todd and from what I've seen he holds back from offering his opinion on issues (when he's on the air). He's a straight news guy and political analyst who tries to give you a snapshot of the political landscape at a given moment. If you have any instances of him betraying any deeply held views please share. I call him a centrist because he refrains from editorializing.
As for my conservative positions, abortion is one, and I also believe in strong law enforcement.
Quote:It presented factual information, not opinion. I have no problem with any news organization presenting facts to the public and in that sense it served its purpose. The only way I see liberals being able to bash this as partisan is if this exact video starts popping up in Romney ads later on.
Oh please. It cherrypicked facts that portray Obama in a bad light and presented them in graphics with ominous music playing in the background. That's propaganda, not journalism. And also it's not a fact that unemployment is 8.3%-- it's actually 8.1%.
They ignore the fact we've created over 4 million jobs in the last 2 years, and that all those job losses were in the first few months of the Obama administration, before his policies went into effect. I know this is unrealistic, but if the job losses we endured in Bush's last month in office continued until now we would have something like 37% unemployment. It ignores trends and the awful hand Obama was dealt. It ignores the fact a million of those jobs were cut by state and local governments headed by austerity Republicans, and we would only have 7% unemployment if they hadn't. It ignores the fact our economy has been growing while Europe's has been shrinking. The facts they present are worthy of discussion, but so are the positive statistics.
A fair and balanced video might show statistics like these, too help illustrate just how bad things were and why the stimulus spending was necessary:
And some video of Republican neocons sabre rattling one of the world's largest oil producers would have been nice background for the gas price graphic.
Quote:So pulling it was the fair and balanced thing to do.
More fair and balanced than leaving up the unfair and unbalanced ad they designed, sure. Oh, but they did put it back up again.
Quote:If the Obama camp has a problem with the then he needs to fix his record. No one is claiming the information is not true, just that a "news" organization shouldn't be playing politics lol. MSNBC, CNN, FOX and all the others are political hacks. Why is anyone surprised by this? You can see it on MSNBC every night too.
But this wasn't at night. The issue is that this is an institutional problem at Fox News, contrary to their claims. Everyone knows the 5-10pm guys like Hannity, O'Reilly, Ed Schultz and Lawrence O'Donnell are extremely biased. But Fox says it's ONLY those 5-10 guys. Which you know is crap, and this confirms it, with an associate producer in charge of the morning show spending weeks putting together propaganda like this. Get back to me with
anything that comes close to this airing on MSNBC that isn't in its 5-10 slot or CNN at all. If CNN or MSNBC truly was pulling stunts like this you would see videos with ominous music showing Romney talking about how Obama doesn't understand how to create jobs and showing how he was 47th in job creation in Massachussetts. Sorry, I just can't imagine Wolf Blitzer, John King or Joe Scarborough doing that.
Quote:Prepare for the ugliest election in history. Thing is, if the election was today it would be the same results as Nov. People have already made up their minds. One and Done for Obaffoon.
Not a chance. If the election was today Obama would wipe the floor with Romney in the electoral college. Talking Points Memo composite battleground state polls show Obama with comfortable 5+ point leads in most battleground states, and trending in his favor.

If you want to know the real state of the race this is what you need to pay attention to-- not national polls in which Obama's numbers are weighed down by the widespread Obama hatred in the durrty south and Appalachia.
