I firmly believe C-USA needs a media contract with one or more of the major sports networks, but could the conference have additional contracts for games not picked up by the primary networks? Mark Cuban owns the HD Net channels and the guy loves sports. His football league (which plays on HD Net) isn't very good, so he might be willing to sign C-USA to a media deal. I don't think they would pay what the others would, but as a second or third tier media deal, it would get more C-USA games on T.V., and a little more money into the conference. Thoughts?
Can't....CUSA is locked into their current TV deal till 2016.
They should be locked into an agreement for the number of games the networks have the rights to broadcast each of those years. Unless those networks have the rights to all C-USA football games until the year 2016, the conference should be able to negotiate a contract to have games that are not included aired on other networks. I think ESPN only gets the championship game. I'm not sure which has the first choice in selecting games they want to show, but I doubt between Fox and CBS Sports they have the rights to air all of the games C-USA plays every season. I think additional T.V. exposure and revenue can be found.
anything not picked up by Fox Sports or CBS Sports Network reverts back to the member schools in C-USA. It's been that way for a while. For ECU....those are the games on WITN. For UCF....the games on Brighthouse Sports Network. For Marshall...WSAZ....For UTEP, Time Warner-El Paso...and so on and so forth.....
These are the games I'm talking about. I'm willing to bet C-USA could get more money by licensing some of those games to a cable network like HD Net or Spike. Due to C-USA's geographic location in the South, CMT might want to broadcast some games too. There would still be some games for the local T.V. channels to cover, and it shouldn't effect the current deal with CBS or Fox.

Interesting info from an O article on Fox Network switching from WCCB to WJZY:
Quote:Fox could squeeze a news department in the WJZY/WMYT studios in south Mecklenburg, but a more likely scenario would have it move the stations to its Speed channel operation at Harris Boulevard and I-85. That modern facility has 75,000 square feet of space, which is only two-thirds built out.

If they have that much room I think there's a good chance that when SPEED becomes Fox Sports 1, it will stay in the U-City location. That can't hurt the Niners or perhaps CUSA!

Not in Greenville. But I'd be fine with NBC getting the deal.
You guys didn't get Versus on the standard cable tier?
Who is the cable provider in Greenville?
Suddenlink. It's on the extended package.
I have Suddenlink here in Charleston, and it's on basic channel 32. That's weird.
Suddenlink is the absolute worst cable company I have ever dealt with...There rates are outrageous in Eastern NC for the content you get. I finally switched to Direct TV and absolutely love it.

RE: New TV deal
There's no way CUSA should resign with ESPN when the current deal expires in two years. I'm sick of them treating CUSA like it's red-headed step child and barely mentioning the conference on Sportscenter or on any other of their sports news programs. They sign us to a contract and then force us to play mid-week games that have low attendance and very few viewers.
NBC Sports is the way to go. As of right now, CUSA would be their only college sports programming and the centerpiece of their college sports entertainment, other than Notre Dame. After losing the television rights of the nBE, they'd probably be willing to pay enough money to be sure they land CUSA.
Time flies and it won't be long until it's time to settle on a new television provider. CUSA leaders need to make up their minds if they want to continue to be neglected by ESPN or placed front and center by NBC Sports.

Also adding FOX Sports Go. Their equivalent to ESPN3.

I'd prefer NBC Sports or Fox Sports over ESPN for no better reason than we will be working against the "Beast" and not for it. It also helps we'd get better chances to get games in front of the most eyes. Fox is great for east coast CUSA teams because we're currently their only east coast conference and would get that time slot.

Awesome. I'm glad someone is adding that.
I really hope Charlotte can get all of their games on that at least. Their new production facilities will be 1.5 miles from campus. If our admin can't even get them to broadcast our games on the internet when they have the equipment and personnel that close by then I give up.
