There may be some difference in the TV revenue, but not much. Media talk is stating it (esp with the ACC/Big XII grabbing the better BE teams).

I think they'd give the Big East the more desirable late afternoon slot. Based solely on the name.

Also if the BE game was a noon kickoff, SDSU fans would have to watch the game at like 9 am!

Are those triple headers for sure?

Wish we would go up to 16 teams to help the new TV contract, going to be tough negotiating anyway so the more teams the better chance of getting the package higher.

I would rather be on NBC Sports (with 20 million less homes) on a Saturday time slot as opposed to ESPN(2) on a Tuesday/Weds.

I will almost guarantee better ratings on the Saturday time reaching fewer homes.

Edit: I also think the perception of those viewing a full house on a Saturday afternoon will be better as opposed to 1/4 filled stadiums on a Tuesday.

our school administrators agree....it's why they didn't resign with ESPN. Instead going with Fox Sports and CBS Sports Network. Both promised primarily Saturday telecasts...with a few Thursday nights thrown in, and a Black Friday telecast (which is fine because that's a holiday weekend).

I don't see that changing anytime soon. They will continue to go that route.

The triple-header was my way of saying the conferences are in the same boat, and will be treated the same way- once the stronger BE teams merge with the ACC and take the bball teams with them.

Yep.

The season ticket package from the '11 season stated we were looking at '16. New Bball practice facility and Minges upgrades coming online before they break ground on another upper deck.

Ding!

Plus, NBC Sports network "needs" COLLEGE BASKETBALL games too to fill in their winter programming...as all they have is NHL in the winter.

Actually, the #1 reason why CUSA signed with CBS Sports Network/Fox/Comcast Sports Southeast is that those networks offered DOUBLE what ESPN was offering ($14 Million to $7 Million).

I think some CUSA AD's were "shocked" at the number of midweek games the conf continues to play...which is made even worse...as those midweek games on CBS Sports Network or Comcast Sports Southeast were viewed by such a small audience, especially going up against games on ESPN or even some NFL games too (even worse this year with a full season of Thursday Night NFL games).

Also, those tiny networks coverage of CUSA Basketball was pretty pathetic (so few games selected)...unless you were Memphis.

If Fox ends up converting SPEED into a 24 hour sports network, that would be a good option. SPEED is currently available in 82 million homes and often is on the standard tier of cable.

RE: New TV deal
Has the C-USA leadership looked into other T.V. possibilities? I firmly believe C-USA needs a media contract with one or more of the major sports networks, but could the conference have additional contracts for games not picked up by the primary networks? Mark Cuban owns the HD Net channels and the guy loves sports. His football league (which plays on HD Net) isn't very good, so he might be willing to sign C-USA to a media deal. I don't think they would pay what the others would, but as a second or third tier media deal, it would get more C-USA games on T.V., and a little more money into the conference. Thoughts?

Can't....CUSA is locked into their current TV deal till 2016.

I'm pretty sure that contract can be renegotiated.

True. Just wouldn't be on the open market, which i think would benefit the league more than trying to squeeze the same networks again.

Fox also made a commitment to air Olympic sports ....something ESPN wasn't going to do. The league can accept a couple of Thursday night games when the majority get aired on Saturdays. Last year, only 6 football games got aired on Thursday night between Fox Sports and CBS Sports Network. 1 of those was the opening weekend (Labor Day weekend). And CSS had 1 Thursday night game. That's pretty good...much better than having 10 ESPN/2/ games on Tuesdays/Wednesdays.

It's dependent on demand. We've been approved by the state to expand if neccessary. Having ODU and Charlotte in conference and continuing to play close FCS schools like App will help speed it up I would think. A lot of ECU fans have made the assumption that it's a guarantee we expand within 5-6 years or whatever.

My assumption was it was all dependent on a BCS conference invite. Now that it looks like that won't happen we've got to create our own demand.....ODU, Charlotte & close FCS schools that travel.

They should be locked into an agreement for the number of games the networks have the rights to broadcast each of those years. Unless those networks have the rights to all C-USA football games until the year 2016, the conference should be able to negotiate a contract to have games that are not included aired on other networks. I think ESPN only gets the championship game. I'm not sure which has the first choice in selecting games they want to show, but I doubt between Fox and CBS Sports they have the rights to air all of the games C-USA plays every season. I think additional T.V. exposure and revenue can be found.

anything not picked up by Fox Sports or CBS Sports Network reverts back to the member schools in C-USA. It's been that way for a while. For ECU....those are the games on WITN. For UCF....the games on Brighthouse Sports Network. For Marshall...WSAZ....For UTEP, Time Warner-El Paso...and so on and so forth.....
