It was/is a little hole in the wall, but I ate there about once a week for years.
There was another little hole in the wall off of Memorial Dr near Avondale Estates that was awesome but I'll be damned if I can remember it's name.
Down in Pensacola, Blue Dot BBQ is the best. But unless you already know where it is, you ain't finding it. No sign and hardly any parking.
Avondale Estates and Memorial has to be This Is It BBQ and Seafood

RE: Barbecue, Barbeque, Barbacoa, BBQ
The Brick Pit, conveniently located walking distance from USA's campus, has really good pulled pork. They were on Man vs Food Nation last summer and their pulled pork is slow roasted for 30 hours, the longest of any place in the world. The Shed is right across the street from USA and has quickly become a favorite for a lot of people. Some of you might know that the original Shed Is in Ocean Springs, MS, and their popularity there caused them to branch out to Mobile and it's been received well over here. If I want pulled pork or chicken I'll go to the Brick Pit. If I want a nice meal with a lot of side options I will chose The Shed or another place. We have Dreamland here, but I'm not crazy about them.

The Shed was after my time, but the Brick Pit was always awesome.
I was just a little too poor in my college days to eat there as much as I liked so we usually ended up at the buffet next door. :(
Quantity trumped quality back then.....

Really like the Brick Pit, but when near South's campus I usually find myself at Picklefish pizza...

Have you ever eaten at the Thunderbird in Florence? Best Southern cooking in the world. We used to stop there every time we went to the beach with our grandmother. Good times.

Sure have, I lived there for 5 years. Statesboro / Savannah also has some good BBQ but I've not found anything to write home about other than what comes off my own home smoker...
This is my Boston Butt from the weekend...

Williamson bros is good. Not my favorite, but consistently good.
As long as we're talking about the burbs, Bub-Ba-Q in Woodstock and BBQ1 in Marietta are both also pretty good, though if I'm being honest I think BBQ1 is a bit overpriced and overhyped, but damn tasty nonetheless.
If you like BBQ1, go to Dave Poe's on 120 in Marietta. Dave was one of the founders of BBQ1 but split off on his own. Great food and not overpriced.
Williamson Bros is OK.

I like Dreamland in Roswell, but not as much as the one in Mobile and Williamson Brothers in Marietta.

I have found that Dreamlands are kinda meh.
Except, of course, for the original.
I have always been partial to the Williamson Brothers.
They have a ton of kinfolk in the Pensacola area and quite a few are family friends.

SBC BBQ Thread
I will admit that I was inspired by a similar thread on the CUSA board.
This is a Southern conference, one of my concerns about playing West was the lack of BBQ. Talk to me about BBQ
The good news :
You boys are in luck. You have accepted the epicenter of Texas BBQ into your conference, now it is time to accept it into your heart. It is time for to forgo your heathen vinegar and swine combination.

RE: SBC BBQ Thread
I made a bacon weave and wrapped it around a pork loin. Smoked it on my grill for an hour on 400 (indirect heat) with some apple wood smoking chips.
One of the best things I've ever eaten.

Which state usually does the Dry rub instead of sauce? I think its a Memphis thing but not really sure.
Ive REALLY become a fan of the dry rub slow cook lately and am over the sauce.

There are purists here in Central Texas who have sworn off the sauce.
Lockhart (the Mecca of Texas BBQ) is only 15 minutes away from San Marcos.
Kruez's (pronounced Ka-right-iz) is regularly in the Top 5 places in the state and they don't offer sauce.
