Just ate at Pit Boss off Virginia Avenue in Hapeville by the airport. As should be its a shack attached to the back of a package store with billowing smoke coming out of the roof. Had a brisket sandwich, baked beans and potato salad. Need to take a nap now and later slap my Mama.
Being a fellow Atlantan we can be even more specific.

I'm a big fan of Heirloom BBQ on Akers Mill. I was eating it like twice a week when I worked in that area.

Of course you can't go wrong with Fox Brothers, also a big fan of Thompson Brothers.

Have only tried Fox Brothers once at the location near Little 5 Points and cant say I liked it. Maybe it was just that day. I have however on multiple occasions driven to Macon to eat JL's BBQ. Also a fan of Old Hickory House in Tucker. Have been going there off and on for 20 years. But usually I go there for the breakfast.

If you haven't had Heirloom there on Akers, you need to check them out, it's on Akers right where it runs side by side with 285 about a quarter mile from Powers Ferry. It's a traditional southern bbq/korean bbq fusion. It's pretty awesome.

Ever hit any of the famous spots up north? Poole's in Ellijay or Pink Pig in Cherry Log?

Naw, if I am in Cobb its usually for Brazilian off of Powers Ferry. I did hit the new Pollo Tropical on Cobb Pkwy Saturday. It was nuts. Every Floridian in NW GA must have been in that parking lot. Usually if I dont do Pit Boss its Daddy Dz off Hill Street and Memorial near GSU Campus
Any place to get some decent Burgoo around there?

I believe H. Harper Station does burgoo occasionally.
As another resident of the Metro Atlanta, area, I am fond of Williamson Brothers BBQ of of Roswell Road in Marietta.

Williamson bros is good. Not my favorite, but consistently good.

As long as we're talking about the burbs, Bub-Ba-Q in Woodstock and BBQ1 in Marietta are both also pretty good, though if I'm being honest I think BBQ1 is a bit overpriced and overhyped, but damn tasty nonetheless.

drgonzo.......up here in the commonwealth 2 counties over from bowling green is a county named monroe that perches on the tennessee line.

i was introduced to their vinegar based barbecue over 20 years ago. it's actually called 'mon-roe county style'

you can get it 'sprinkled' or 'dipped'......sprinkled is hot....dipped is....hotter. i absolutely love it. you can get it shredded but they serve sliced shoulder that is to kill for. most of the joints are only open around 3-4 days per week.

it has made its way into some surrounding counties but is still generally referred to as 'mon-roe county style'......even though most would pronounce that 'munrow'....those folks don't.

it's an interesting area.
Love Whole Hog, perfectly smokey and for the heathens there are six sauces to choose from but the advanced people go for the vinegar bases sauce. Actually also make good brisket which demands the molasses based sauce.

Anyone drifting from the east toward Little Rock needs to stop at
http://www.roadfood.com/Restaurant/Overview/2453/craigs
and http://www.roadfood.com/Restaurant/Overv...y-pie-shop

If you ever have reason to be in Lake Village, Arkansas http://www.roadfood.com/Restaurant/Overv...us-tamales
Only place that is a bigger dump than Craigs

Yeah buddy. I like em hot. Chopped pork is the sandwich and I apply the sauce generously. Sides include fried okra, corn and corn bread. A lot of people get slaw on their sandwich, but I'll pass

yup.....'the kentucky headhunters' hail from that area and they sing of a 'slawburger' in one of their songs. i've not eaten it in that form. i always go for the sliced shoulder dipped. god i love it. might take a trip this week to go get some as it's been awhile.
Is Fat Matt's still open up there in Atlanta?

It was/is a little hole in the wall, but I ate there about once a week for years.

There was another little hole in the wall off of Memorial Dr near Avondale Estates that was awesome but I'll be damned if I can remember it's name.

Down in Pensacola, Blue Dot BBQ is the best. But unless you already know where it is, you ain't finding it. No sign and hardly any parking.
