Okay but official box score says it was the second. Harper hit a grand slam and he bats 3rd. How does that happen in the 1st?

Ah, you're right. I remember it well, now.
It was the 2nd.

8-0 now. Got to get some consistency from our starters.

It is a bit like last year except we started better. We need to move Carpenter out of the 1 spot. You can't have someone batting leadoff that has a .200 BA. Swap spots with Fowler maybe. Maybe bring up some guys from Triple A too to push the starters. Both pitching and hitting are bad now. Of course, we have had a brutal schedule to open the season.

I agree, something has to change.

Well, the great 20-10 start is done, now back to .500. That Sunday night meltdown vs Atlanta was painful. A-Rod was right calling out Matt Carpenter for continually hitting into the shift. Don't remember the exact terminology but it was something like "becoming more valuable and extending your career by diversifying your swing".
Hopefully start winning series again tonight in Philadelphia and crucial to win Cubs series in St Louis this weekend.

Our starting pitchers have been so awful. We finally get Flaherty pitching great and lose the lead and the game late. Winning a series would be nice.

That last inning was horrible. I could not blame Flaherty for being pissed. They ripped Hicks a whole new one and then it bled over to Miller. Sometimes that 100 mph plus does not cut it.

I'll just say as a NYY fan, I sure do love the Luke Voit trade last year. Worked out well for him. He was buried in Memphis and now currently tied for 7th in the AL in HRs and RBI.

On the flip side of that deal, what happened to Shreve? I don't see him listed on the STL roster (CBS Sports page).

He was DFA'd to the Redbirds.

Well, I was hard on Carpenter always hitting into the shift a few posts back but tonight when he came up bottom 10, bases loaded, 1 out in a 1-1 game, he plopped it into an unattended left field for the win. Maybe he can improve on his .215 now. Lot's of work to do teamwise but at least they beat the Cubs tonight. Even the Cubs didn't think he'd go opposite field. Look at the defensive set before his game winner:

A hearty thank you to Chris Bryant for firing up the cards. Kolten Wong isn't too shabby either.

It's just bad all around.

Batting (1 regular player batting over .275, none over .300, 7 under .250):
Martinez - .291
Goldschmidt - .272
DeJong - .270
Molina - .265
Ozuna - .259
Fowler - .243
Munoz - .241
Wieters - .241
Wong - .235
Bader - .233
Carpenter - .225
Gyorko - .196

Goldie with nearly a .300 career average batting .272, probably because he bats behind Carpenter who has a low OBP.

Pitching (1 starter with ERA under 4, just barely):
Mikolas - 4.54
Wainwright - 4.46
Flaherty - 4.06
Hudson - 3.70
Wacha - 6.30

Last year our starters were awesome. We just didn't have any middle relief. This year it's awful.

The Cards just took 3 out of 4 from the Mets but who knows what to make of it.I'd like to think this is the start of good stretch but anything can happen with this rollercoaster team.
