Panthers Fall for the Big Lie That Refuses to Die
An FCS fan trying to reassure himself, no doubt.

Just Butt Hurt All Day Long. The AJC just posted a story showing our 2013 travel costs in the SBC will be $150k less than the travel in the CAA in 2012. SBC payout based on last years numbers would be $750k vs $200k for the CAA. Um...what?

Whoever wrote that piece just wasted a few moments of my precious timed. Darn, it's a long wait for the "Kick-off of 2012".

Financially, the only thing that would have kept y'all in the CAA would be getting a piece of the NCAA money from the VCU Final 4 run. Moving from FCS to FBS is not always the right move for a school but in GSU's case, I really think it was a no-brainer, especially given the decrease in travel.

Some schools just shouldn't make the move. I think history will show Idaho was one of those. I think Idaho made a poor decision. They didn't have the facilities and no way to get them, coupled with being one of the most difficult places in football to travel to.

There are other schools that can make the move but they need to do it right.

I know at the time Arkansas State made the move it was a poor decision because the administration wanted to be I-A on a I-AA budget and that led to needless suffering for the fans until they got their act together nearly a decade later and made the building process far more difficult.

I think a solid case can be made that ULM and UNT didn't have things squared away when they moved and exposed their fans as well to needless heartache that could have been avoided with a couple more years wait.

That 200K figure includes George Mason and VCU's final four run.

Are you referring to our return to FBS in the mid 1990s?

Yep, looked like a real lack of focus and direction. Money spent on the quickie fix at Fouts might have been better directed.

RE: Panthers Fall for the Big Lie That Refuses to Die
Boy do I get frustrated reading sloppy written articles like that and I don't know what is more frustrating......the author's propaganda or readers who are too lazy to really think about things he said. Just two things that jump right out. First, he talks about the money earned from the final Four runs over the past 5 years (I think that is right) and tries to insult WKU with that slap. He conviently forgot WKU's Sweet Sixteen run....oops!! Then he takes a swipe at FIU and FAU about the amount of money from student fees. He forgets to mention that FIU has a student population of almost 48,000 and FAU has a student population of over 29,000. A whopping $326 and $303 per student annually from those schools.

What else does he leave out? Well, as someone mentioned, GSU travel will be less in the SBC. Oh, depending upon how they schedule, a couple of games against big opponents that will bring in twice as much as they normally would have brought in during an FCS schedule. Televised games. Access to 2 bowl games that will draw more than any playoff game they may make.

So you would commit animal cruelty and voluntarily surrender 4 and a half months of your LIFE just to get to football season? I like football but being willing to die early is dedicated!

I now clearly see why so many threads either 1) end up being 43 pages long or 2) get derailed 3 posts in.

I am ashamed to admit it, but yes.03-melodramatic

The poor quality of internet journalism, the insanity of conference realignment speculation, and the anal pains of those not bound for FBS play have me daydreaming about Theoretical Quantum Kitten Mechanics.

I wonder if my fist has to be going 88 mph.
