Why would you? They would provide a nearby rival and, if they stay long term and can pull their weight, may become an asset down the road in terms of TV deals.
I still maintain there is no reason to rush to add them since they will still be there waiting for an FBS bid for several years if they don't get one now. However, if it happens, it happens.

Why did we have to add them now? We should have waited until the alliance mess settled out and then make a decision. It's not like they had any other options.

Nothing. The alliance is it's own conference whether the add a couple or not. Even if we keep all our members we only have 11 and need one more for a CCG and divisions.

It would be the worst thing to do if Benson waited till June the 1st to get rolling because then we would literally be cramming rejects into our conference on short notice instead of getting them now.

GaSt is going to eventually field a decent team whether it's in the alliance, Sun Belt, or FCS. I'm not to worried about them getting 20 more players a year. If those recruits want to go to Troy, South, or MTSU then they will go there.

So what you're saying is get them before the are officailly rejects??? What's the difference between getting them now or in 2 months??? I don't like the GSU addition, they bring nothing to the conference now and will bring nothing to the conference later, because as it has been said, if they are successful on the field, the will be plucked by whatever is left of CUSA. I see no benefit other then the SBC being a transition conference for teams to get from FCS to FBS and a different conference.
