I bet you're as excited as ESPN is - we might actually see a game scheduled at 1pm, on a Tuesday, on ESPN classic. But hey, it's TV right!
No different than adding Troy, FIU, FAU, WKU and USA in my book. That is what the SBC does when it has to. Some of those have done 'OK', vs say UNT who did not pan out.
um...UNT ran this league for the first few years. just like troy did for a few years. its not that UNT didn't pan out they just hired bad coaches. they are on the up swing now.
Sure they are on the upswing, most SBC teams are but I rather doubt they will surpass some of the new SBC programs, or have more potential than GSU, UTSA, etc.
The newer FBS programs in the SBC have probably played a bigger role in improving the Belt in recent years than some of the older programs, and UNT is the best example of a SBC program that has not helped the SBC in football.
I guess you are not impressed by:
1) Our brand new $80 million on campus stadium.
2) 2nd highest naming rights deal for said stadium.
3) Or helping set the bar higher for head coach and assistants salaries in the SBC.
4) Windmills.
We used to have a bunch of windmills around. One was the world's largest back in the 1970's built by NASA for research on Howard's Knob a mountain in Boone. Just built a new type one on campus, part of the green effort and for research. App State just competed in DC in the world's energy efficient homes designs. Most windmills are outlawed by NC law now though. They believed the return on the old type, most commonly used, was not worth the environmental factors.

Our facilities upgrade alone is impressive, but when you look at our success on the field, I think it is hard to argue the impact UNT has had on the Sun Belt.
From 2001-2004 UNT went 16-3 against teams that are still in the Sun Belt today. Those games were against ULL, ULM, Arkansas State, MTSU, Troy, and FAU. In that span we lost one game to Troy, ULM, and FAU. Arkansas State, ULL, MTSU didn't record a single win during that stretch. In 2001 North Texas shut out Arkansas State 45-0. In 2002, ULL lost 27-0. In 2003 Troy lost 21-0 to UNT. In 2002, Cincinnati, who is now in the Big East lost to the Mean Green 24-19 in the N.O. Bowl. That was the first bowl win for the Sun Belt.
As far as success against up start Belt teams. UNT is only 2-6 against FAU since they joined the Belt, but they are in worse shape then us now, and we have beaten them the last two years. UNT is 2-5 against FIU. There is no debating they are having more success. Against WKU, UNT is 4-1. In an honest accessment of the situation, UNT is close to competing with the upper level of the conference, which includes WKU and FIU, and is better then FAU.
Other than Troy, I don't believe another football program has equaled the success of UNT in the Sun Belt. I'm sure there are better examples of older and newer programs that have not carried their weight. UNT is a strong Sun Belt program.

UNT and Troy have been the face of the SBC since we added FBS football . . my thanks to both and I hope both stay in the SBC . . both are solid programs and have done much for SBC football.
Go stAte . . Go SBC !!

RE: Ok, WTF???
it seems pretty simple to me...Ga St is being added early b/c they were in the long term plan and adding them on Monday allows them to pay a 250K CAA exit fee as opposed to the 1+ million it will be on Tuesday when the CAA schools have a scheduled vote to raise it.

Why make them wait and pay 1 million just to soothe the egos of some SBC posters? This makes it more likely that UNCC will get an invite within the next month knowing that a rejection means an immediate acceptance by App State.
If we loose FIU, UNT and possibly MT, the SBC can counter with adding App State, Ga Southern and ODU. Then look for developments at UNF and Florida Gulf Coast University. I think both will be announcing new programs by 2016.
