Well technically it is still the Abrahamic God.

Christians worship a tri-une God (God the father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit, all one and the same God). Most Muslims are taught that God does not have a Son.

Therefore, Christians and Muslims do not worship the same God.

John 8:19 - "If you knew Me, you would know my Father also."

Muslims do not know Jesus Christ, so they also do not know the one and true God.

OK...here we go.

It IS the same God...basically.

In the Old Testament Abram was married to Sarai. Sarai could not give Abram a child so she offered her maidservant Hagar to Abram for the purposes of bearing children. This did not fulfill Gods covenant so Hagar and her son Ishmael were banished to the wilderness to die. They didn't die. Ishmael is the father of Islam. Later Sarai conceived a child with Abram and God changed their names to Abraham and Sarah.

That is the cliff notes version and done from memory so forgive any errors but the gist of the story is right. It is the same God.

That happened about 1700 BC. Islam started around 600 AD. That's a 23-2400 year difference. Plenty of other differences abound too.

This might clarify what I mean. From what I've read, Muslims and Christians do not worship the same character of God (rather, Muslims don't refer to God as a savior, redeemer, or likewise). This is a pretty good read.

That's just how I understand it. I have read many times that Ishmael was the father if Islam through his descendants. Not him directly. I should have said that.

Edit...

From Wikipedia....

Ishmael (Arabic: إسماعيل‎ Ismā'īl) is recognized as an important prophet and patriarch of Islam. Muslims believe that Ishmael was the firstborn of Abraham, born to him from his second wife Hagar. Ishmael is recognized by Muslims as the ancestor of several prominent Arab tribes and being the forefather of Muhammad.[23] Muslims also believe that Muhammad was the descendant of Ishmael that would establish a great nation, as promised by God in the Old Testament.[24]

As far as I am concerned........same god. Different beliefs on how to get to heaven after death here on earth. Then again - there are certainly different christian faiths that believe "if you don't believe and follow my version of christian faith" - you'll go to hell.
