Ohio will also gets a boost in rpi from Marshall, Louisville and Lamar playing in title games today plus Akron which counts for three times. Ohio win and gets help from the other should puts us in the 40's. SOS will improve a lot as the weight of Akron's rpi plus Marshall, Louisville and Lamar. Ohio has the winning %....its the SOS which is killing our rpi. Without Tennessee Martin and Kennesaw state dragging down the non-conference numbers Ohio's SOS is improving fast with every Louisville and Marshall win. Marshall is now Ohio first top 50 win. California and Drexel don't have one of those. Can Ohio and Akron's SOS surge pull Kent State back into the final rpi numbers that inflates the record vs top 100. That makes a huge difference for Akron.
I couldn't see Akron drawing anything more than a 13 seed with a record of 23-10 out of the MAC even with an RPI in 40's.
Ohio has the potential to go higher if Marshall, Lamar and Louisville can get W's today.
Akron played and beat Marshall too, so whatever they do to help Ohio they help Akron by the same amount.
Still I just could not see the committee giving Akron anything better than a 13 as a fairly average MAC champion.
Ohio because of record and tradition maybe.

That is good point of how all the mid major automatics drop back a seed with the additional at-larges.
Ohio at 27-7 with wins over Lamar by 7 and UNCA by 19 both projected 15 seeds along with losing to the Big East champ Louisville by only 5 might have a chance here.
Does Marshall get into the dance by making the CUSA final? They do and pick up a 13 seed I could see a situation where Ohio ends up with a 12 or an 11 because of these wins and making a run 2 years ago.

Akron sold out their allotment of tickets for the Q.
Should be a great atmosphere!

Yeah, but isn't it a blast to prognosticate the effects of "program history" on whether or not a team will receive a 13 or 14 seed?

RE: Ohio vs Akron for the MAC title
As a Bobcat fan I'm excited and nervous, Akron is a great team. As a MAC fan I'm happy that our conference is going to be represented well in the Dance regarldless the outcome. RPIs, Top 100 wins, OOC records.... that's all just splitting hairs. (whomever it was that told me about the ignore feature I want to say "thank you", btw.)
These are two really good teams that can upset any team when they bring their A game. Wish we had 3 or 4 spots in the Dance, the MAC would do some damage.
p.s. I went to Bed Bad & Beyond today looking for a new comforter. I told the lady I wanted the softest one they have. She said they had one that was so soft they call it the Zeke. I bought two. Go Cats.

I don't know about that. I have actually gotten kind of depressed this season with the level of play in the MAC. I don't get a chance to see many MAC games, so I'm stuck watching the Big 10, ACC, and Big East games mostly and have noticed that we seem so much less athletic and more sloppy than those teams by too large of a degree. The top of the conference (Buffalo, Ohio, Kent, and Akron) doesn't really dominate the rest of the conference in actual game play the way the top of the conference does in football, although these teams dominate in terms of wins, just not by margin or actual physical domination. One thing that really hit me was that our West champion lost in the first round of the MAC to one of the worst teams in all of college basketball. I watched the Buffalo-WMU game and the Ohio-WMU game and expected that Ohio and Buffalo were going to completely dismantle them but they didn't. I was really excited about Ohio this year with their play before MAC play started (big win over a very good Marshall team, very close loss to Louisville, and I think I remember impressive wins over Northern Iowa and Lamar but could be wrong) but didn't run through the conference like I thought they would. I know that they are in the MAC title game which is what I expected at that time but I would've never guessed they'd struggle with WMU and lose to Toledo.
If Akron wins this game, I'm expecting them to lose the first game of the tournament. I think Ohio would have a better shot at winning that first game but if I had to bet, I'd bet they'll be out after the first game also.
I really hope that you guys prove me wrong!

RE: Ohio vs Akron for the MAC title
A bright spot for the MAC in basketball this year was the resurgence of Eastern Michigan. Toledo and Ball State also finished in the upper half of the West which is the way it should be with the facilities and location of those schools.
If the MAC can get Northern Illinois on track up to the +200 RPI level this is probably a 2 NCAA conference especially with the way they've restructured the tourney format.

I still don't think Marshall will get into the field after getting pounded by Memphis....probably one of the last 4 out.

I do have to say in comparison to other Mid-major conferences, I love that we play in an NBA arena that looks pretty full on TV in prime time on Saturday night.

Terrific game.
How strange that he made the FT when he was trying to miss it.

Just saw the offical crowd: 10,301. The Gund..err, I mean Quicken Arena, looked even fuller than that with both the first two decks seemingly completely full, even in the end zones.

What does Quicken seat? Something like 15-16K? I've been there a couple of times but can't recall...is there must be a third deck that didn't appear on TV then? Because the first two levels (and even the endzones) were completely full.

that game was 40 minutes of anxiety. Hats off to the Zips, that was a close, competitive contest with amazing performance all around. Zips 9-12 from 3? that was insane.
