And, I'm in the (minority?) camp that doesn't get psyched for our fans to yell "YOU SUCK REF!!!" over and over again, sometimes using the refs' names. Maybe I'm crazy.

You are not crazy. UT fans were embarrassing. I am not against letting the refs hear it when they make a bad call. I did it last night. But were two nasty women who constantly berated the refs the entire game. I am deaf in both ears from these two screaming all night. Far worse than the EMU student section. They were really low class and made UT look bad. Then they started screaming at the UT players. Haylie Linn in particular. They were sitting right behind the UT bench. I think it rattled the players. They could not collect their composure. If you cannot shout encouragement, then shut up! Being negative to the players does not help them. It only compounds the problem. UT has some really low class fans. Trailer park residents.

04-cheers

I've been saying for the last couple years that many UT women fans annoy me. Sure, we have one of the best followings in women's basketball and that is awesome but most games I spend considerable time yelling back at our fans while watching the game. It's one thing to complain about a bad call...it's another to complain after every call against Toledo. I've brought friends to games who have been complimentary to our fan support but critical of our constant referee and player bashing. I know some of you will say that every crowd has a few bad eggs...but those "few" bad eggs leave a bitter taste in many people's mouths.

Btw, any chance those two females were Hispanic? Oh those two really irritate me...

No, these two were big fat white women. We sat in front of one of them last year at the away EMU game. She sat down after we sat down last nite. I would have moved, but I came with my whole family and my brother's whole family and two good friends. 16 in all. Too many to move. But I know the two Hispanic women. They sit in our section at home games. They earn equal ratings as trailer park fans. But, believe it or not, these two big fat white women are worse than the two Hispanic women.

I usually sit behind the UT bench at home and have never heard ANYTHING but encouraging words for the players and even the stuff hurled at the refs tends to be simple boos, or "C'mon ref-she traveled", that sort of thing. I will say that the odds of having some obnosious fans is greater when you have attendance in the 4,000 range than when you have atttendance in the 400 range. Glad I missed the folks in question.

There were probably 800 UT fans at the game. Maybe 400 EMU fans. I am certain that this game will set the high attendance record for the EMU home games. The previous record was 1,000 for the UM/EMU game.

The trailer park trash takes advantage of the opportunity to move in close behind the bench at EMU. We need to organize a strategy to crowd out the trash at that game next year.

EMU Homegame Attendance

EMU vs UM 881
EMU vs UT 1237

They sell more tickets to the opposition than they do their own fans.

I tend to be (overly) critical of Rocket athletics on this board, so this post is kinda foreign for me, but...I actually think the Lady Rockets have done about as good as they can this season. If you think about it--Naama goes out a few games into the season, leaving us with really only 1 proven ball handler, neither of our 2 transfers became impact players as was expected/hoped for, only 1 true freshman is contributing, we get 2 quick losses in the MAC at the start of conference play, and we just never really replaced Goodall--this season could have gone "south" pretty quickly. The fact that this team, with the parts it has, was able to be in a position to a) beat BG and b) hopefully finish with 20 wins is, in my opinion, a pleasant surprise.

RE: WBB vs EMU
It was a horrible, ugly game for the Rockets. Still, let's chill out a little. We just got done winning ten in a row. A loss by 21 or a loss by 1 is still a loss. Given a chance to bet on an EMU vs. UT match-up in Cleveland, I would pick the Rockets. Last year we beat them twice and then lost to them in the tournament. This year will be the opposite. Our defensive scheme was solid and well-executed. Between now and then, Cullop will figure something out.

Ball-handling is definitely our weakness, and EMU is quick enough to exploit that weakness. With all the griping about Linn, no one mentioned that Dortch had her worst game ever as a Rocket. Against an aggressive defense, you have to attack. If you are timid, the defense will devour you. Attack the defense, create contact, and force the refs to call the fouls. Naama, I miss you so much!

Not that it would have made a difference last night, but I question Coach Cullop's commitment to sitting anyone with two first-half fouls. Smith sat for most of the first half, and Dortch sat the last ten minutes of the first half with two fouls each. Meanwhile, Eastern's point guard got her second foul five minutes into the game but never sat (maybe a minute here or there to catch her breath, not sure). A game can be lost in the first half as well as the second. Just keep Dortch and Smith in. So what if they foul out after 30 minutes. That's no worse than sitting them for ten minutes in the first half. The upside is that maybe they quit fouling and get to play a full game. Last night we would have lost anyway, but we will never beat Eastern without Dortch playing heavy minutes, especially if Reed-Lewis is unavailable.

I loved Richardson's game. Ingersol was great on defense, even though she couldn't shoot. Smith was aggressive offensively.

Us old white guys can be pretty annoying. But we have been trumped by the fat white ladies. And this old white guy does not want to compete.
