RE: WBB vs EMU
disagree with the post about EMU being better all around team, how many points off of turnovers did EMU get? add in a few "homer calls" and this is a different game, James was "held" to 20 poimts i think. We beat ourselves more than they beat us IMO.

Wow, sounds like the Rockets were never in this one. That sloppy ball handling finally caught up with them. Beat by 21. That's ugly.

RE: WBB vs EMU
28 TO's officially. Hailey with 8, Dola with 8, Yo with 5, that's all I remember.
Yo dropped some nice passes, and missed more bunnies tonight, so did Thadegara.... But they both played very hard and were not the reason we lost.
We lost because we're slower than EMU.
Courtney bless her heart used all of her energy on Defense and her shots didn't fall because she had no legs
And Hailey played rotten. UT had a 2 on 1 fast break and she threw it to their only defender while falling down.
Also Dola got into foul trouble with 8 minutes left in the first and had to sit.
With 15 mins left in the game Toledo was down 6, had a fast break we missed the pull up and after that before I blinked we were down 15 and the game was over. 33 points, and 28 TO's doesn't get the job done.

8 year old yelling (who doesn't know any better) and a mom encouraging it + students being students but a little worse than normal. Or an adult yelling at a referee, and not directing it at the opponent as a whole.... Different opinions will say which is worse but I can see where you come from. I tried my hardest to be respectful, we were losing so it's hard to talk back when you're getting your butts handed to you. But I will give no mercy to EMU fans anymore. I used to feel bad... now I have no problem turning my head and letting them get made fun of for being the directional school who brings 4k to their football games.

RE: WBB vs EMU
my opinion only the problems were
Linn
too many turnovers
Linn
couldn't make threes
Linn
the refs the first 4 minutes of the game
Linn
coach kept wanting to put Linn back in
Linn
EMU coach did a good job and knew are weakness and everytime Linn got the ball they doubled her and she can't handle it. She is a shooter and NOT a ball handler she should have been pulled out so EMU coach would have had to make another adjustment. The bigs were not strong enough to keep reditt from scoring or from getting rebounds. They need to work on this before tourny or we will get it on a platter again. If they are killing you because of one player get her out and don't give that victory we have plenty of players and anybody could have done better than Linn today becasue of the emu plan. The only other times they doubled was when posts got the ball and posts need to recognize that and get the ball back out quickly. Courtney did the best she could do but James scored more on the free throw line and on points off turnovers than in the half court game. Just great fan support and they stayed till the end and that was the only very uplifting thing for me.

The problems were a a lack of answers for EMU's pressure. Linn was just a senior trying to do what was asked of her. Linn did not commit the other 20 turnovers in the game. While she was 0-4 from 3-point land, Ingersoll was only 1-6 and the rest of the team was 0-4. The team was only able to make 13 shots the entire game.

You are not crazy. UT fans were embarrassing. I am not against letting the refs hear it when they make a bad call. I did it last night. But were two nasty women who constantly berated the refs the entire game. I am deaf in both ears from these two screaming all night. Far worse than the EMU student section. They were really low class and made UT look bad. Then they started screaming at the UT players. Haylie Linn in particular. They were sitting right behind the UT bench. I think it rattled the players. They could not collect their composure. If you cannot shout encouragement, then shut up! Being negative to the players does not help them. It only compounds the problem. UT has some really low class fans. Trailer park residents.

I've been saying for the last couple years that many UT women fans annoy me. Sure, we have one of the best followings in women's basketball and that is awesome but most games I spend considerable time yelling back at our fans while watching the game. It's one thing to complain about a bad call...it's another to complain after every call against Toledo. I've brought friends to games who have been complimentary to our fan support but critical of our constant referee and player bashing. I know some of you will say that every crowd has a few bad eggs...but those "few" bad eggs leave a bitter taste in many people's mouths.
Btw, any chance those two females were Hispanic? Oh those two really irritate me...

No, these two were big fat white women. We sat in front of one of them last year at the away EMU game. She sat down after we sat down last nite. I would have moved, but I came with my whole family and my brother's whole family and two good friends. 16 in all. Too many to move. But I know the two Hispanic women. They sit in our section at home games. They earn equal ratings as trailer park fans. But, believe it or not, these two big fat white women are worse than the two Hispanic women.

1. We don't match up well with Eastern Michigan.
2. We have only one decent outside shooter.
3. Our freshman and sophomore recruiting classes are producing almost nothing for the team.

I usually sit behind the UT bench at home and have never heard ANYTHING but encouraging words for the players and even the stuff hurled at the refs tends to be simple boos, or "C'mon ref-she traveled", that sort of thing. I will say that the odds of having some obnosious fans is greater when you have attendance in the 4,000 range than when you have atttendance in the 400 range. Glad I missed the folks in question.

Last year I was concerned about player safety and got crucified by you and others on this board.....but you went totally overboard & unacceptable by calling out a player and throwing her under the bus. Basketball is a team game, and it's a TEAM loss..... Shame on you!!!!!!!!!

Did not see the game but IIRC we had FOUR, (4), quatro, IV, baskets that were scored by anyone not named Yolanda. Yeah, I have trouble putting too much blame on any one person. It sounded like we had a tired team- Janelle is a turnover machine at times but she is awfully quick and gives us that speed and a better option at the point than Courtney. I chalk this one up to a team (and coaching) effort, as I'm sure the coach and team do. Yolanda actually had a monster game- SIX, (six), seis, VI blocks? 9-12? We just gotta get her on that late season roll and clean out the other cylinders so they start firing again. If history holds true we should win the NCAAs if we don't play EMU in the tournament.

Whether UT is the better OVERALL team may be debatable but there NO question that in head-to-head match ups EMU has absolutely owned UT for the last three meetings. As someone pointed out we just don't match up well with them----particularly without a full compliment of true point guards. This may be considered as pure heresy on this board but I will also venture to say IMHO that in this game and in the one at Cleveland last March in terms of detailed game planning and preparation UT was out coached....and doesn't happen very often.
Actually I thought that the UT defense was quite good except for the last few minutes of the first half and then toward the end of the game when I think UT was just tired and James got a ton of fast break baskets. It was the offense that suffered the total meltdown except for Richardson who had more points than the rest of the team combined.

We will struggle against any team that has athletes and can play solid defense. Our half-court offense can be very painful to watch at times.

You gotta know where to pick your seats at a ladies' game. Bleachers are usually a good option. We ended up moving yesterday because of the continuous screeching behind us.

EMU defended UT very well. #2 We have two good outside shooters in Ingersol and Linn. EMU took away the outside shot last night.
Janelle has shown considerable improvement at handling the point in the most recent games. She was sorely missed last night. Stephanie Riker played point in high school but you need game experience to be effective. We missed the slashing weapon on offense (Naama). Riker had some phenominal slashing moves in hs, but you need game time comfort. Passing reverted to early season slow/lobs that were easy to pick off. Yollie and Cre played well. Cre had the basket of the game in the 2nd half when she took it in with a crowd of defenders swatting at the ball. She showed drive and determination. But since EMU covered the outside shot, there should have been many opportunities inside. Poor passing and lack of offensive rebounding killed us.
The referees ignored a ton of fouls by EMU in the 1st half. They should have fouled out 3 or 4 at least. UT crowd became rabid when Lebron James' lil sister poked Courtney in the eye right in front of the UT bench. It was intentional.
