Jeff Goodman at CBS Sports Tearing Into Xavier
Fight with Cincy only the start of Xavier's problems this season
AMHERST, Mass. -- It's been 73 days since The Fight, the moment that by nearly every account completely altered Xavier's entire season. The Musketeers were rolling, having just torn in-state rival Cincinnati apart with a 23-point victory -- the eighth consecutive win to open the 2011-12 slate.
When Tu Holloway started talking trash to Ge'Lawn Guyn at the end of the rout, when Dez Wells delivered the push and when the team's supposed leaders -- Holloway and Mark Lyons -- got up on the podium immediately after the game and failed to apologize for their actions, well, that's when Xavier's season began to crumble.

"They have the talent. In fact, I'd still say there are few -- if any -- backcourts that match up man-to-man with Holloway and Lyons"
Jordan Theodore
Ashton Gibbs
Tray Woodall
Malik Wayans
Dominic Cheek
Dione Waiters
Scoop Jardine
Shabazz Napier
Ryan Boatwright
Jason Clark
Darius Johnson Odom
Peyton Siva
Kyle Kuric
Vincent Council
etc., and that is just some of the Big East guards. Holloway and Lyons are good players but sportswriters love the narrative of finding the "great" backcourts on mid major programs.

From the comments section.......
Quote: xufan2434 February 22, 2012 2:52 pmMost frustrating team of all time.. All signs indicated after the UD win, that they were going to UMass on a "business trip" to get things done. Frease has checked out and possibly the biggest disappointment to come through Xavier. He has gotten nowhere in 4 years and came in as the highest recruited players X had ever had. I don't know if it's the lack of chemistry or not, but too many ...

Surprising who it is considering Goodman and Mack were playing footsie during every preseason interview they had together (to the point of Goodman commenting on Mack's leg tattoo). Travis Taylor was one of the impact transfers coming in, Lyons and Holloway were perhaps the best backcourt in the nation, and Mack was on a quest to lead X to their first ever Final 4! Nastradamus in the flesh, that Goodman...

LOL what's up Chris?
In the past one and a half years or so, I've graduated from The University of Toledo with an accounting degree, found a fiance, am planning a wedding set for 5/12/12, moved a bit south to Findlay,OH to be with her and her 5 year old daughter, found myself a decent job down here, and welcomed a beagle puppy into the family. Needless to say, the boards had to take a back seat to a few things...
Been following the Bearcats during that time, catching every contest and living and dying with each game. My interest has never waned even through all the changes in my life...

Well, my sincerest congratulations on all the above. You say found a job "down here", do you mean Findlay or in Cincinnati? Either is good, but in Findlay there is just a little too much Rapistburger for my liking.
Welcome back on the board. Hope to see you posting more often.

Thank you sir. I meant Findlay, and yes, there is a lot of Rapistburger/Squeeler fans in this town. They have a restaurant that offers an actual Rothles-burger here in town. I asked them if it comes with a drunk girl and a police report...
Overall, I do like it here in Findlay and it got me roughly 50 more miles down I-75 to make the Bearcat trips a bit shorter.

In a parallel existence, Rapelisberger broke his arm at Miami, went back to Findlay and moved into a nice trailer park and started cooking Meth.

Maybe the point of the article, since Goodman and Mack are good friends, is to cover Mack's back and blame the players? That's the way I see it.
