It could allow the Merger to go to 18, with two 9 team FB divisions but 8 all sports programs that could play just within the division for travel purposes.

Add La Tech in all sports to the East, move UTEP to the West and you are done.

If AFA leaves, then you don't have to add any all-sports members; you can have two 7-team divisions for sports other than football:

East: Marshall, ECU, UAB, USM, Tulane, Rice, Tulsa, Temple

West: UTEP, UNM, CSU, Wyoming, UNLV, Nevada, Fresno, Hawaii

Where is Air Force going....Marinnatto told CUSA commish that BE was done.

There is strength in numbers in the merger....more programs in a division equals less cross divisional play which helps for travel purposes.

Unlike the BE, Merger members are not flying all over the country to play games.

Temple stays in the MAC and A-10 until they get into the BE. If they want to play Eastern CUSA schools ECU and Marshall they can schedule them OOC. No need to do a buyout from the MAC and the A-10 to buy into CUSA, then pay another buy out to CUSA and entry fees to the BE down the road. Temple doesn't have that kind of money.

no idea what the Alliance will look like TV wise though.

Didn't realize the disparity. Of course, CUSA has now been gutted of its largest markets, and who knows what the Alliance will bring.

Oh please this is such a spin if I have ever seen one. The Conference USA deal is only worth an estimated 1.8 mil per school WITH HOUSTON, SMU, UCF, and MEMPHIS. That deal is going to be taken away very soon trust me.

The MAC schools got around 1 mill if I'm not mistaken so it's only about 800k more plus a whole lot more travel expenses the MAC teams don't have to pay for. By the time Louisville bought it's way out it would have lost money moving to conference USA, put it's basketball in a worst conference, and have to pay another fee when the Big East comes calling.

Actually each CUSA schools tv share is $1.25 million not 1.8 even though we would appreciate the extra income. That's per school. Not a huge amount at all and it may be that a merger helps to preserve that amount or even bump it up a little. Have to wait and see. Now the MAC, back in 2009, made about $700k and re-upped with espn for mid-week games and doubled their money to about $1.5 million. Not bad until you realize that amount is for the entire conference to share. Not per school.
