And before you go lighting PJ up , think about this: MAC coordinators leave for BCS postion jobs i.e Schaefer, Canada previously, Roushar, and many others. As much as we love NIU , being a position coach in the NFL is a huuuge step above coordinating this offense. Sorry. This is a move any coach would make. this prepares him more for a future head coaching job here or anywhere else. IF you take a general manager job at Taco Bell , but Googel or Microsoft offers you a management position, you leave every day of the week! I know PJ well, and this was a very tough decision, but at the end of the day, in college football, you have to look out for yourself. Nothing is guaranteed.

That's all well and good, but then PJ should be truthful about why he's leaving. All those guys you mentioned were upfront about WHY they were leaving.

My quoting feature won't work but yeah, totally weak. Don't take the job if you don't want it and haven't explored all of your options. Embarrassing and a letdown but everything happens for a reason. Good luck in Tampa Bay.

Safe to say he won't be the head coach here. Hello Matt Canada or Coach Tuke.

Another added bonus - we steal a coach from the Goober Gopher, aka HWSNBN!

I'm trying to figure out how this is a better career move. There's no doubt it's more money, but if he's looking to be a head coach, an offensive coordinator position would be much better for him than remaining a position coach, even in the NFL.

In a legitimate fashion. The problem isn't that PJ left, hell, he's left before. I don't blame anyone for trying to advance their career. I'd leave my company tomorrow for a promotion the type these guys are getting.

The problem is the way PJ went about this, it's unprofessional. He's embarrassed the school and our head coach, it's completely disrespectful, even for college football coaching standards, which are extremely low when it comes to sticking to a job.

That.. and the way he did it certainly doesn't look good to any mid major that may have wanted to hire him as a head coach. Why would you trust him to even stay a year or two? He's limiting his future chances with a move like this, unless he'd rather coach in the pro's and just doesn't care about college football (obviously, possible).

RE: P.J. resigns
im pissed...

seriously wtf is this? its been a great week for NIU then I come home from a long week of work ready to enjoy my weekend and i find out about this sh1t? the worst part for me of this whole thing is because i really believed PJ was our coach fitz like northwestern has. a guy that bleeds red and black and would never be swayed by money or BS and would be a lifer for us and great coach. NEVER would i think this would be a PJ move, not him. its just really disapointing. if he didnt want the job, he shouldnt have taken it, BUSCH LEAGUE!!!

Screw worrying about our next HC. Let's get a good OC in here and move on. All this B.S. with the former Kaneland/NIU/49er/Rutgers guy doesn't change the fact we've had two great years and just signed a great class.

I'm excited as hell for spring practice and then kickin' some Hawkeye a** this fall!

What a prick move. Dude just screwed himself forever in NIU lore.

He has put himself just below Lee Corso in the ranks of NIU screw jobs.

I bet Doeren wants to ring his scrawny neck.

To be a head coach at the non-AQ FBS level being an NFL positions coach is on the same level as an FBS OC or DC.

The recruits would rank a new HC with experience as aNFL positions coach higher than an OC or DC.

In this case he will be making 3X the money per year.

If he was just given the offer today then I have no problem with the timing.

However, he needs to release a statement asap clarifying everything otherwise this looks as bad as the Jerry gaff...I have nothing to say to you...
