I agree on Carlton Guyton. To answer Ty’s question: No, chucking up a ball 5 feet behind the 3 pt line in a close game is NOT what we want. At least, I hope not. If CG can’t figure that out by this point, maybe Evans or Brewer should get his minutes.
IMO, CG is running out of time to show he’s more game than hype.

Guyton was horrible until he hit the runner at end of game and then hit 2 FT. I was screaming at TV to take him out.. He better wake up soon

luckyflash, I agree Guyton has been going through a rough patch. Up until tonight I didn't know if I really believed that he was playing timid because of his ankle injury in the preseason but that layup he hit on the fast break convinced me. He faked the defender into the air then laid it in but it looked like you would have had a hard time sliding a sheet of paper under his feet when he went up. Remember this guy won the dunk competition in the preseason (albeit judged by toddlers). In terms of athleticism he looks like a shadow of himself right now.
I had a fairly serious ankle injury a few years back and it took me almost 2 full years to reach the point where I felt comfortable jumping off of one foot again (not to mention landing on one foot). I almost wonder if he's going through something like that because he never seems to beat anyone with his first step anymore and plays he used to end at the rim he's now ending with mid range floaters.

Anti-zip, Guyton also had what could have been a very serious neck injury a few months ago. That is most likely a major reason why he doesn't seem the same.

DC has mentioned this more then once about CG's neck injury along with the charges last year. He is a shadow of himself right now.

RE: Kent State vs. Central Michigan U.
Midway through the second half we went up by 11 and tried to put them away on a series of bad shot selections by settling for jumpers and 3 pt. shots and way too early in our possessions when we should have been running a little clock! I was in disbelief watching the replay last night not knowing the final outcome and wondering if we had just signed our own death warrants for the game.
Here's the play by play of that series....with substitutions and fouls edited out:
14:21 HOLT,RANDAL made free throw 46-35
14:03 GUYTON,CARLTON missed 3-pt. jump shot -
14:03 - TEAM defensive rebound
14:00 Foul by JACKSON,PATRICK -
13:40 46-38 MCBROOM,AUSTIN made 3-pt. jump shot
13:14 GUYTON,CARLTON missed 3-pt. jump shot -
12:32 Turnover by EVANS,CHRIS -
12:21 46-40 ZEIGLER,TREY made layup
12:05 GAINES,ERIC missed jump shot -
12:05 - TEAM defensive rebound
11:35 PORRINI,MICHAEL missed 3-pt. jump shot -
11:35 GAINES,ERIC offensive rebound -
11:31 GAINES,ERIC missed jump shot -
11:31 - KEEL,AUSTIN defensive rebound
11:09 46-42 COIMBRA,ANDRE made jump shot
10:56 PORRINI,MICHAEL missed jump shot -
10:56 GREENE,JUSTIN offensive rebound -
10:52 GREENE,JUSTIN missed jump shot -
10:52 GREENE,JUSTIN offensive rebound -
10:48 Turnover by GREENE,JUSTIN -
10:46 - Steal by KEEL,AUSTIN
10:26 46-44 COIMBRA,ANDRE made jump shot

RE: Kent State vs. Central Michigan U.
Glad to see Gaines back! He certainly is a huge help on defense and had a great tip in last night. Two silly fouls took care of some playing time for Kris Brewer. And Scootie is trying to be a threat driving to the hoop and has settled for too many too long 3 pt shots lately. He is good at breaking down the D but hasn't been able to finish like he did earlier in the season.

Guyton could help himself a lot if he would take a lesson from Holt. Randall does not drive very often, but when he does, he looks to pass to a teammate as the defense comes to him. Scootie seems to not have the vision or awareness of his options, other than to shoot through the defense. The defense knows this, therefore they just keep coming to crowd him rather that having to worry about others or passing lanes. This is BB IQ and he really needs to work on it. It is even more important as other parts of the game goes south, because that type of player can still be very very valuable.

Oh, maybe that's what I was thinking of. I remember hearing about an injury he had before the season started that might be affecting his aggresiveness. I don't know why I've been thinking it was an ankle injury but you're probably right.
I can understand a neck injury getting in a guys head.

If the pre season injuries and last year’s problems nag Carlton, then who was the guy wearing his number in the West Virginia game?
This isn’t 8th grade where everyone gets to play. In my opinion, CG should produce or we invest more of his minutes in Brewer. Kris may not produce more as a true freshman, but at least we develop someone for the future.

Very good point about the WVU game FlashFan, I'm hopeing CG comes outta it but with Gaines back there are more options behind him now.
