Just because I am tired of threads about Akron and OU near the top of the board.

Central Michigan comes in losers of 5 in a row. Two of those were at home and one was on the road to....NORTHERN ILLINOIS.

They have won 3 games since December 3rd and broke 70 points only three times. If the Flashes bring that pressure defense with them to Mount Pleasant, they should be just fine against the stagnant Chips.

The backcourt of Trey Ziegler and Derek Jackson provide most of the scoring. The thing is these two are also the team's leading rebounders. I would think that Kent State is going to have plenty of personnel advantages and take this road game with little trouble. Of course, that mentality is the last thing KSU needs going into a big week against CMU and WMU.

Kent State wins 69 - 59 in the "return" of Scottie Guyton (16 points).

A few other games of note this week:

Eastern Michigan is at Miami. I have seen EMU a couple times on TV and although they have clearly taken a step towards becoming a competitor, they don't have the firepower to be the real deal yet. Miami may not be looking good for a conference title, but they ain't gonna quit. Wouldn't it be nice if Miami can hang loss number 3 on Eastern Michigan at Millet on Wednesday.

Ball State is at Buffalo. Believe it or not, it makes sense to pull for Buffalo in this game. Ball State is coming back down to earth...maybe even to the point where they could lose to Toledo and Central Michigan the next time they play those teams. I like those odds more if somebody like Buffalo lays the wood to them (say by 30 points) on Wednesday and hangs them with their 4th conference loss.

BG is at Western. Western Michigan comes to the MAC Center Saturday night. I would have no problem with them coming in limping. If BG can beat 'em, and the Flashes can beat 'em, thats 5 early losses for a team that was supposed to compete for the West.

BEAT CMU!
Don't forget about the ESPN Bracketbuster drawings on ESPN tonight at 6:30PM! I'm dreaming of a Kent/Davidson, Kent/Oral Roberts, or George Mason type of matchup. Never know, they might toss up in with a Drexel like they did with LaSalle last season.

ORU would bang us up. And as an aside, GMU drew Lamar.

C-O-C....not having the kind of year they have had in most recent memory under Bobby Cremins who has taken a medical leave of absence for the rest of the season. As part of the bracketbuster agreement, the home teams in this years match ups (Kent) have to play a return date next season to visitor's court (COC) in November or December of 2012-13 season.

The Cougars (12-9) and Golden Flashes (14-6, 4-3 Mid-American Conference) will meet for the second time in both program's history. They last faced each other in the first round of the 2003 Postseason NIT with CofC moving to the second round with a 71-66 victory on March 19, 2003 in Kent the year after the Flashes advanced to the elite eight. It was the last basketball game of Antonio Gates' career.

CofC is 4-1 all-time in BracketBuster games and has won its last four-straight appearances in the event, while KSU is 6-3 all-time in BracketBuster games and one of only 11 programs to have been part of the event since its inception for in 2003.

KSU will honor Gates and other members on the 2002 Elite Eight run on it's 10th year anniversary during halftime of the game.

I agree with your assessment of CMU....they kept up with Akron in rebounding, were only out-boarded by two 38-36 and Trey Ziegler led the Chipps with 9 rebounds and Jackson had 21 pts. I watched that game and the Zilches couldn't put them away, but Coach Ernie Ziegler stopped CMU's late run with a technical foul. That led to two free throws and a basket on the ensuing inbounds which was a four point possession. Gonna be a gut check grind it out win in my mind.

EMU has certainly raised a few eyebrows with their play in the West and with that win over BG last week. Let's hope they can hang an L on OU and Akron and we can take care of business in those matchups as well.

I really through OU would hammer WMU in Athens but was amazed that the Broncos could stay so close while making 17 turnovers. They did out rebound OU 38-37 for the game and got a lot of their scoring from the bench. They just wouldn't go away, but I can tell you one thing...OU certainly did not hit threes or shoot as well as they did versus the Flashes.

Ball State trailed 23-9 at OU before the Bobcats tried to coast to that win. I think Buffalo will get it done and the way BSU hangs around make them the most dangerous team in the West right now besides surprising EMU!
And we will have our favorite friend in the house tonight. Bo Boroski is working (us over) the game tonight. With Lamont Simpson and Sanzere. Really, not bad.

2 out of 3 isn't bad, maybe those 2 will take the lead tonight and not let Bo blow his whistle LOL

GO FLASHES!!!!!!!!!!
have we ever mentioned that Kent State doesn't rebound well?
Good to see Gaines back out there! Holt is playing well early. Doing a decent job early defensively but can we get a rebound on the first attempt!
its one thing to shoot well when greene is playing well. but when he is off teams catch up. central michigan is doing just that early on. Holt does look good!
Why must we wear the blue jerseys. Last two times we have worn them have ended bad (Colorado and Akron)
this one is hard to watch so far. KSU is reaching for an offense, turning it over and getting beat bad under the hoop. a nice run would help here to end the half
just when i thought we had the first half issues fixed 03-banghead03-banghead

better then the god awful black unis. the school colors are blue and gold and we also have the gray uniforms also.
Down 19-10 on rebounds and wehave 10 turnovers at the half. It's sad when you out shoot a team 50% to 33.3% in a half and you go in tied.
How about no BracketBuster game this year...WTF??????
there is no excuse to continuously get out rebounded.
They need to get coached up and show more effort in getting to the ball!!!! this is getting ridiculous
so is this defense going to continue the whole half? looks good for two minutes.
deep thoughts. one - pressure is Kent State's best bet on defense. i wish they would amp it up a bit more. two - guyton should come off the bench. three - killer instinct is not there tonight (is it at all?). four - get the win and get out of there!
WTF was with that alley opp attempt?
