At least UC's admins were smart enough not to allow UC's players to speak publicly. That would have been a train-wreck worse than X's. You don't stomp someone on the ground. If you kept score, it looked like Cinci landed more swings than hoops on X.

I saw three Xavier players throw punches--number 54, 5, 10, and of course #52 talking smack right before the altercation. Then all the UC players that threw punches.

It was bad for both schools....but why X had two thug players give quotes at a press conf is beyond me.

PS: Did I mention that Holloway is a punk A$$ little bit(#@!

there's a difference between trash-talking/shoving and sucker PUNCHING and stomping on a player.

Thumbs up to Cincy's coach for his statements after things got settled down though... but to defend the Bearcats players because Xavier players trash-talk???

Totally agreed

Yea but you take the loss here and then you give up maybe your next five games to suspensions and if your coach is true to his word, some of your players will never play for the school again. Not to mention this goes on their NBA resume.

I would have just walked away (but kicked that azz when I saw them on the block.) The Xavier player was dead wrong in his statement- Gangsters walk away and get you at a time an place of their chosing- thugs react on emotion and make themselves look like fools.

But thanks, Cincy may have taken SYR out of the sports headlines.

#5 and # 10 for X threw multiple punches. And here is a video of Kenny Frease going after female UC fans, and going after UC's AD, 1.37 seconds

well after the fight was over and UC was in the tunnel.

Gates threw more punches than the entire Xavier team, and he was more effective in landing them too. Although he was careful to remain out of sight of those he punched, unless they were a lot smaller than him...

All in all, it was a bad scene for everyone involved...

I would have never let my players talk to the media after an incident like that. The Xavier guys came out looking like a bunch of thugs....or I should say "gangsters" as they call themselves.

Obviously Cincy had players making bad decisions as well, but I commend the Cincy coach for the statements he made after the game.

RE: Brawl at the end of the XU v UC game
Had I been the Xavier coach, anyone talking sh!t would ride the bench until he learned how to shut up. Screw this in your face posing...

Although had I been the UC player he talking trash at just prior to halftime, I'd have probably hit him right in the adam's apple. I never started, so it would have been no great loss to the team if I missed a game. It would have shut him up once and for all. But I was much more impulsive as a young man...

It will be interesting to see what cronin does to gates, since he seemed to be one of the more "active" participants. I cant see him being dismissed but if anyone is maybe he should be. You know to send a message to all the kids out there...

I can see Cincy players taking a bigger hit. From a coaching perspective Cincy was preseason ranked at 22 and dropped three of eight games since- including one to prebaterian. This still could be a good year for the team but probably not as great as some would have hoped coming off last season. Cincy's coach can afford to make a statement, get administration support and look like a good guy by coming down hard on his players.

Xavier is ranked #8 and has a legit shot to win it all this year- at this point. When was the last time they've been in that position? When will they ever be there again? I see few penalties coming down o Xavier by the coaching staff for this reason.

Agree, I expect Cincinnati to discipline the players and take our hits this season. Xavier will try to do everything they can to make it to the school's first final four. I hope UC ends the series.

Nothing says feel the Jesuit love like videos of the student section chanting "F##k UC" or of X players swinging at and getting in the face of a bunch of middle-aged women sitting in the front row.

Nothing will happen to X players. They cover up coke use and give diplomas to kids who have not gone to class in months. This aint' no thing for the gangstas up in here. LOL

I really don't want to get into this travesty that took place, BUT if there isn't 10, 15 or 20 game suspensions following this debacle amongst a inner City Rivalry then maybe just maybe it should take a little hiatus for the next couple of seasons. I really don't know what will happen, but I can definitely tell you that the NCAA is going to have to change it's rules about players leaving the bench and so on. I am amazed that someone didn't really come out of this with a serious injury, but honestly that was just a sad ending to what has been probably one of college basketballs better bitter sweet rivalrys that rank right up there with the big ones IMO.

I hope wholeheartedly that the series is cancelled indefinitely. There have been violent incidents every single year since I was in high school - obv. none as notorious as this - but regardless of the instigating party, this series has bred an element of hostility and outright danger that is completely transcendent of a good-natured sports rivalry. Three years ago, Kenny Frease headbutts Gates. Two years ago, Lance Stephenson is screaming in Xavier players' faces and there are several scuffles. Last year, didn't Holloway elbow someone in the face? Plus play had to be suspended several times so referees could mediate scuffles. It's a dangerous and ultimately pointless rivalry, and I can't tell you what I would give to see the series with Dayton rekindled in its place.

Completely agree. I wouldn't be a damn bit disappointed if Yancy and Cheik were sent packing.

But, if my alma mater is going to hold its players to a high standard, then it needs to be consistent, and end the series against a school that takes such pride in being "gangstas".

Can't have a double-standard here.

I agree. The difference is, only one of the two schools takes the flak for it. And you, being a Memphis fan, know exactly which school that is 03-lmfao

What we needed to do was play a damn game of basketball for the last 25 minutes, instead of quitting.

I would have understood our getting hot-headed at them, had we put some form of effort into the game (BUT NOT condone it). But we played like pansies, then decide to clock on them? We didn't even CARE until after the game 03-puke

I never condone fighting between players but Kenny Frease is officially a b**** in my book. Dude gets cold cocked and stomped, then crawls away on his hands and knee. After he isn't in any more danger, he stands up, starts screaming and swearing like he is some sort of bad*** and goes after the older UC fans in the stands.
