That's not what Barker said, and he certainly didn't say that he had chatted with PBJ. Tony Kurre got to talking about UAB's football program, the stadium issue, and the head coach position, and he asked Jay what he thought about CNC's future at UAB. Barker admitted he doesn't anything about it, but he made reference to comments made by PBJ in which PBJ said UAB fans should support their program and coach. Barker inferred from that statement that PBJ was saying we should support CNC because there's not going to be a coaching change. (I assume he was referring to PBJ's comments in this Birmingham News article.)

Barker's reference to PBJ's comments should be taken with a huge grain of salt because he was trying to speak off the cuff about something that he admitted he doesn't know anything about. (Note that PBJ's comments were made in the context of the stadium issue, not the head coach issue.) It was obvious that he doesn't know much about UAB's football program, but he probably felt obliged to reply to Kurre's question instead of just saying "beats me." I didn't take anything Barker said seriously. He only spoke for a couple sentences about the coaching issue and quickly changed the subject back to the Auburn/Alabama game.

Glad you cleared that up. I heard the info I posted from a coworker.

Should have made that clear in the opening post instead of getting people riled up on Black Friday.

My thoughts as well. It wouldn't be too wise to wish the Blazer fans a Happy Black Friday.

Did they "support" Bill Curry? Did they "support" Mike Shula? Did they "support" Ray Perkins? Did they "support" Mike Price? Yet, we at UAB are supposed to "support" Neil Callaway after 5 years with a abysmal W-L record? Would they "support" him down there with this kind of production? I don't think so, the majority of their fan base would be saying some of the very things we've been stating here all along.

With all due respect, Jay Barker should stick to what he knows, which apparently, is not a whole lot sports-related beyond what he sees thru those crimson-colored glasses he wears 24/7, 365....

We'll soon find out who's running things around here, that's for sure. If they bring this man back next year, that will tell me all I need to know. But, someone showed me an article in today's fish wrapper that shows there are a number of players who think/feel that Callaway should be allowed to return next season.

It's their alleged opinion, to which they are entitled, beyond that, I'm not sure what to say, maybe this is one of those "off the field" intangibles. I can't help but wonder if there's a divided locker room on this issue with the players?

He should know the words. I personally handed him a business card sized laminated print out of the fight song a couple years ago.

The next copy of the fight song he gets should be stapled to his forehead.
