RE: expansion
I don't think Tulsa would join and I hear UTEP wants nothing to do with it.

RE: expansion
UtEP liked the Tex schools, SMU & Hous are gone
Travell is insane for UTEP in C-USA
Larmne WY is closer than Hous.

IF Memphis stays & depending where Tulsa gets thier students
Tulsa staying in C-USA
however if Memphis moves
travell between MWC east schools & C-USA west schools is within reason [500 miles]
Tulsa might prefer MWC schools over atten at Rice, Tulane & UAB

RE: expansion
Comcast is trying to save their contract. The best thing the MWC can do is to merge with C-USA and start a new conference. Comcast has shown they will not renegotiate the contract, so screw them. Bail on it and let the bidding begin!

UNM pushing for NMSU's
inclusion to Mountain West

As conference realignment continues to lead the Western Athletic Conference to extinction, New Mexico State has the backing of its instate rival.

Mountain West Commissioner Craig Thompson said New Mexico State and Idaho were brought up in recent discussions to expand the conference. Thompson also said the University of New Mexico vouched for NMSU's inclusion into the conference.

RE: expansion
San Jose State, Utah State
Are Officially Members Of The Mountain West

[Image: Screen-Shot-2012-05-04-at-10.42.39-AM.png]

We are pleased to announce the addition of San José State University and Utah State University to the ranks of the Mountain West," said Mountain West Commissioner Craig Thompson. "As we have developed the strategy for the future of the Conference, the long-standing rivalries with our current members and the fit within our geographic footprint made these two institutions the optimal choices to strengthen our membership and position ourselves for the next steps."

Those next steps include continued consideration of a future association between Conference USA and the Mountain West. The two leagues have synchronized their new membership decisions and are still determining what form the alliance will take.

Are either NMSU or Idaho any good at football? That seems to be the main focus behind all of this. Idaho doesn't bring much to the table from a basketball standpoint. But NMSU could help give the MWC some strength as they're a fairly solid program.

I personally wouldn't mind having both NMSU and Idaho join the MWC.

I personally wish we'd bring back football so we could maybe be an option.

I could possibly see the MWC giving in and bringing in NMSU. I know they say UNM wouldn't be a big fan of it but they would definitely help basketball and I'd think it'd be a nice rivalry for them. Idaho on the other hand is only getting in if the MWC feels bad for them. They bring very little to the table. And if there are any future thoughts about Boise coming back, I don't think they'd want Idaho around.

Idaho & New Mexico State must join the Mountain West or they wind up in the Big Sky Conference.

Boise St is not coming back.

Pick up Idaho and the Potato bowl.

RE: expansion
I say we bring in UTEP/ Tulsa and NMSU and Idaho ( on the grounds that they play at WSU stadium only). That will get us to 14. NO BSU or SDSU. They are gone. But possibly bring in a couple of Texas schools or the one or two Montanas or Cal Polly to get it to 16. We pick up the spud bowl from BSU and resurrect a couple of old bowls like the old Raisin in Fresno or the Silicon Valley Classic but play it in SFO instead of SJSU...unless they improve that facility. Plus have our own championship game to sweeten the pot and get a decent ESPN contract from the old WAC since they will be done after NMSU and Idaho leaves. We just get our own ESPN/ABC contract. Then invite Creighton, Wichita, Denver and Seattle for Basketball and our Basketball will get multiple bids and offset SDSU loss.

I would love that. Would love to be in a conference with Creighton, Tulsa, UTEP, New Mexico, New Mexico State, Utah State and UNLV. Denver wouldn't be too bad either as they're improving. That's at least a 3 bid conference every year. Probably 4 or more.
