Troll alert.

Your Troll Detector needs some calibration.

Anyway, Brett McMurphy was on the David Glenn show at lunch and basically said that ECU's chance for a BE invite depended on WVU/UL being invited elsewhere.

The reason? TV markets.

And that blows. Nobody gives a flying fart that we can fill our stadium, that we are committed to improving academically and facility wise because we are not in a large urban area with a big TV market.

If McMurphy is right, every ECU fan better hope UL gets an invite to the Big 12, otherwise we will be lucky to be playing FBS football in the regional conference with ASU, JMU, ODU, etc.

Yes....I amazes me how many of our fans simply choose to ignore the history of BE expansion. Each time it has been toward TV markets. I hate it like hell...but...to ignore this is simply setting ones self up for another letdown. I fully expect the BE to again pass ECU over for the same reasons again. Again...I hope I am totally wrong.

Done deal...ECU not part of the Big East desperation tour once again. They do not go after fans in the stands. They go after TV sets hoping that success will draw the crowds and for the most part that plan has worked out for them in the past. The bottom line is adding ECU does not add enough TV dollars...Simple as that. Would not matter if we were winning unless it was at the level of Boise St. The only reason they are even considering Boise St at this time is because of the credit they will bring towards the Big East retaining its AQ status.

I think the BE will end up as this:
UConn
UC
UL
WVU
USF
Rutgers

UCF
Temple
Navy
SMU
Houston
AF or Boise

I'd prefer if ECU was number 12. I think AF is too far out. You never know what will happen, but I'm rooting for you guys. If not, keep winning and when the next team leaves you'll be at the top of the list. I hope UCF will schedule ECU and Marshall every year if we're not in the same conference.

Your whining won't be missed. Sure it's going to be bad if we get left out, but the only way we get set back 40 years is if we let the disappointment affect our desire, love, and support for ECU.

Aren't you the same one that wants to fire RUFF and went off the deep end after the loss the other night to Houston. Not trying to stir it up, but this sounds contradictory. Personally I'm disappointed in the season and definitely disappointed with the ignorance of the Big East, but you gotta believe that ECU will come out alright. Like RUFF says, there's fans/followers and then there's believers.

If you really want to rub it in, Boise St. success = TV dollars

I doubt we would have a bit of interest in scheduling you OOC. As for the BE if we can't get in when they are adding 6 teams it's obvious they will just move new teams to the top of the list each time they are looking.

I always thought UCF was ECU's biggest conference draw. Seems like a good rivalry game and would like it to continue.

That's very debatable. Marshall is the only conference member who actually brings a large number of fans to the stadium. UCF is probably second, but I don't think I have ever seen you guys bring more than 500 or so. We play people OOC who are going to sell their allotments. We haven't played a single C-USA team who left the last time, and I would expect if you leave it would probably be the same. The only rivalry between us is over a BE bid, so it will pretty much end if you guys get in and we don't.

If Temple were to join the Big East for all sports or if Richmond joined the CAA for all sports, then ECU could approach the A-10 for their other sports.

UCF was only ever a conference draw because it usually had some sort of implications in the East. But honestly a lot of our less fanatic fans dont know the difference between USF and UCF... Marshall was always a good ticket due to our history.. always will be. They will ALWAYS be on our schedule

South Carolina
Virginia Tech
UNC
and a very good Houston team.

All of those teams have a combined 3 losses and 20+ wins on the season.

ECU would whip your little MAC team into a green and white guacamole looking mixture if you brought it down to Dowdy Ficklen.

Marshall is probably on par with ECU this year and Ohio beat them by 37.

RE: Advice to ECU: Find a Hoops Conference Now
My opinion:
ECU is still rebuilding after Skip Holtz left at the same time the entire ECU defense graduated (left). Terry Holland issued a spin statement encouraging fans to be patient. I am not sure the current coaching staff can get the job done, the offense is failing miserably, and defense is barely better than last year. We'll see how they do during the conference season; if corrections are not made, look for a new staff by 2013. That said, ECU has the facility, the school, and the fans to support any conference. The Tidewater to Wilmington area is 2million strong, and ECU puts 50K+ fans in the stadium every Saturday, with probably 10K more sitting outside the stadium. The party atmosphere is incredible, and the celebration of college football is a rite of Fall in Greenville.

Normally I disagree with Holland's letters. This one probably needed to be sent. Gotta try to talk people off the ledge (and I was right on it after that game). Now if we lose to Memphis I'm jumping off.

Understatement of the year. I was about to try and find you so I could talk you down myself. 04-cheers

Some of the stuff as the night went on was me just intentionally going over the top. The "lose your leg mowing the lawn" and "hope your sister gets gonorrhea" was just me trying to have a little fun with my meltdown.
