North-end terrace part of proposals

While talk of a basketball arena continues to grab attention, the University of Louisville is continuing to move forward on plans to expand Papa John's Cardinal Stadium, U of L athletic director Tom Jurich told Louisville's Rotary Club yesterday.
Jurich said plans now are being drawn for an expansion that not only will swell stadium capacity to 60,000 seats but will include a terrace around the north end zone modeled on the end zone terraces at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa.
"We've done a request for proposals and have done three different meetings with architects," Jurich said. "We're trying to come into the (north) end zone without losing the effect of the end-zone building, because television likes that."
Jurich received approval from the U of L board of trustees to put out the request for proposals last November. The program already has sold out its allotment of season tickets for the upcoming home schedule.
The terrace idea, however, is a new wrinkle to what Jurich has proposed in the past. The heart of the proposal is the addition of 30 luxury suites above the stands on the stadium's east (non-press box) side, with more sideline seats above and below those.
Jurich said he likes the idea of a terrace, which would include concession areas, where fans can watch games.
"One thing I feel is a deficient part of our stadium is that it's really difficult to walk from one side of the stadium to the other," he said. "And I want to make sure that people can go back and forth."

>The Cards got a bit of cooling for a couple of their practice sessions this week, but the practice atmosphere apparently is heating up. Cardinals coach Bobby Petrino said the team has reached about that time when players are stretching the limit of competing each other.
"We've been getting after it pretty good," Petrino said. "It's been very physical. One day the defense does good, and one day the offense does good. I think we're getting tired of battling each other. I think after Saturday we'll settle in and start really focusing in on Kentucky, although we did a lot of that this week."

>While U of L sophomore quarterback Brian Brohm may be a household name in Louisville and a subject of national media stories, his reputation apparently hasn't reached Penn State University. When asked by a local reporter if he plans to use sophomore quarterback Anthony Morelli in a similar role to the one Brohm played last season for the Cardinals, Nittany Lions coach Joe Paterno said, "I don't know who Brian Brohm is."

Joe Pa must be slipping. I can guarantee you Petrino has watched game tape of every top 50 team from last season over the summer.

I love the sound of the terrace, like the one at Raymond James Stadium. Check this out, this awesome.

JO Pa is so senile that he can't remember what he had for lunch much less another team's QB.

this is big time right here - that is what you continue to do, even after getting invited into a BCS league - you don't rest on your laurels - you continue investing and growing........UL is on its way for sure......

That sounds really cool. I'm wondering if something similar to that can be done in M.M. Roberts Stadium's endzone. It would be awesome to have fans there at the beginning of the game and have the players run out in a bit of a "fan tunnel. Not too mention the fact that our concessions suck right now.
Anyhow, congrats on this Card fans.
