What Obama should say Thursday
In all the decisions I have made in my public life, I have always tried to do what was best for the nation MYSELF. Throughout the long and difficult period of the rescession, I have felt it was my duty to persevere, to make every possible effort to complete the term of office to which you elected me.

In the past few days, however, it has become evident to me that I no longer have a strong enough political base in the Congress to justify continuing that effort. As long as there was such a base, I felt strongly that it was necessary to see the constitutional process through to its conclusion, that to do otherwise would be unfaithful to the spirit of that deliberately difficult process and a dangerously destabilizing precedent for the future.

Therefore, I shall resign the Presidency effective at noon tomorrow. Vice President Biden will be sworn in as President at that hour in this office. 05-stirthepot

Just a guess, but I bet the stock market would skyrocket. 04-rock

"I hereby resign from the office of presidency" would suffice.

Actually I lifted this from Nixon's resignation speech and just replaced Watergate with Recession. 03-wink

"Effective 5 minutes after this speech my entire administration will resign. We will do whatever we can to help Speaker Boehner's transition to the presidency. My campaign war chest will be donated to homeless and injured vets and my wife will need to get a job."

RE: What Obama should say Thursday
What I'd like to see is this.

Take the 2-3 best ideas Obama comes up with. Take the 2-3 best ideas the republicans have. Put them together in a truly bipartisan bill.

Not the kind of crap that Obama and the dems called "bipartisan" in the "stimulus" and Obamacare. The republican things you do should be the actual things republicans propose, not taking and perverting them and calling them the same thing (like "tax cuts" in the "stimulus" or "tort reform" in Obamacare). I'd issue the same warning to republicans, but I really haven't noticed them pulling the same disingenuous crap. Somebody on the left may be able to identify one or more cases where they have, and if legitimate I will stand corrected on that point.

Here's what he's going to say:

"We're going to spend a helluva lot more money that we don't have and hope it works this time. Unless those obstructionists in the House bully me and the Senate again."

Unless those obstructionists in the House bully me and the Senate again. And don't worry about it, you'll be long gone by the time your great, great, great, great grand kids get the bill."

You touched upon a good point. Can you imagine what his books will look like after he's done ******* up the country and leaves the White House? OMFG, I can only imagine that his view of what happened, why it happened, and his role in it will be so far from reality that his book will be viewed as fiction.
