They obviously had good meat or you would have never "stepped foot in."

It was a late Sunday afternoon, and no other processors were open.
I had never been there before, and I will never go back.
Me and a buddy ended up quartering the deer in my backyard.

So, yes, I stepped both feet in the store, but I've never tried the meat, and won't.

Just my experience, go check it out for yourself. #snicker

I haven't been over there in a few years but it used to be a decent place. You could get your supplies there on highland and go around the corner and get your meats.

You can buy some seriously delicious beef short rib steaks at Costco for around $4 each (10 to 12oz. cuts)...almost as tasty as a rib-eye IMHO.

I'm no longer hungry. The mere thought of eating that much McD's makes my stomach upset.

RE: Meat Markets in Memphis
I was in Costco last weekend and they had quite a few cuts of "Prime" steaks including some Veal Chops.

I'll buy Ribeye's wherever they're on sale and I can determine the marbeling & thickness of what I'm buying.

I've had some good luck this summer with 2" thick Porterhouse steaks from Kroger. I had the butcher cut them to my satisfaction.

How about this Tomahawk Prime Ribeye I had last saturday night @ Jim's Place Grill in Collierville? I shared it with my wife for our anniversary.

It was supplied by Halpern's Meats and was grass fed beef from The Harris Ranch in California.

My new Chocolate Lab puppy is loving gnawing on that bone. LOL

I don't buy steaks from Kroger or Schnucks (OK, I should say I RARELY buy from either).

I really like Charlie's. I don't think they have the highest quality meat (the stuff I order is mostly Prime...so that's my point of reference), but they do an excellent job and the meat is excellent. If it wasn't such a hike, I'd go there more often. I used to go there every few weeks when I lived in High Point, but those days are gone. If they don't have exactly what you want, they'll cut it...don't want your filets bacon-wrapped (I usually don't)? They'll cut new ones. I think Charlie's also has individually frozen steaks available, but I haven't tried theirs.

I can't help you with Southern Meat Market.

I buy all of my meat from either Kroger or Target, but we only eat Laura's Lean Beef.

I should have said that one of the big reasons I don't buy at grocery stores is they cut steaks way too big. I rarely eat more than an 8-oz. steak and often only eat 6-oz. (actually 5-oz because I'll cut some off for our toddler). I don't need a 1-lb. steak...I don't care how good it is...because if it's there I'll try to eat it and regret it later.

We started eating the Laura's back in the late 90's. It's extremely lean and has no antibiotics or growth hormones, strictly grass fed. Once you figure out how to cook it, the flavor is great. But it's not something we eat in large portions.

TB: would you mind sharing how you cook your Laura's steaks? thks

Not at all. If you've tried, then you know they are so lean that you can easily overcook them. They MUST be marinated, preferably for a long time. Then I just grill them as usual, being really careful about timing. This weekend I'm going to be cooking up some thick sirloins that are really almost roasts, and I'll be making Swiss Steak with them. Are you familiar with this?

the last time I ever went to Shooters- some guy got kicked out, went to his truck, got a pistol and emptied it towards the front door.

Yum, yes. Do you do yours with/without cheese? I love beef but try to keep it to no more than once a week. Hubby and I ate at AndrewMichael's last night. I had a beef cheek, not kidding, that's what they called it. It was absolutely amazing. So tender, no knife needed. So flavorful your taste buds went AMEN! Hubby had duck which was also fab. And it was so much I have leftovers.

I do mine without cheese. My pants size is large enough already. We eat beef fairly regularly, but I usually make a large pot of pasta with it, and the pasta I use is high protein, so it doesn't require as much beef. The meal you had sounds quite delectable.

the one in Oakland (Hwy 196 a hlaf mile suoth of Hwy 64) closes like @ 5pm but it pretty good.

I mostly go to Charlie's, last time we had a thread like this on here someone stated the High Point market was better but I've never been there and don't know if it still exist.

Anyone been to the Southern Meat Market near the University or Charlie's Meat Market on Summer?

I used to go with my grandmother back when I was a young child.

They used to have sawdust on the floor if I remember correctly.
