RE: Spring Football thread
The spring game will definitely be interesting.
It looked like Javanti Greene was running all over the D on Saturday.

RE: Spring Football thread
If anyone is thinking about attending todays practice it’s my understanding that the team will not be in full pads.

Late Sunday night and disappointed that there's nothing new posted on week 10 practice. RE tweets congrads to Iron Eagle award winners...what is that and who are the winners?

I feel you, but EMU fans are getting MUCH more than we've been given in the past.

RE: Spring Football thread
New video is up and there is alot more footage of Benz at QB. They do a good job of showcasing both offensive and defensive highlights. I see KT beat Pollard down the field for a TD catch one time too.

RE: Spring Football thread
At practice this past Tuesday a coach said that Benz has better arm strength but Gillette has better mobility. He did say though that Gillette has significantly built up his arm strength this off season to close the gap. The coach said the two "compliment each other well" in terms of ability.

They are also very excited at the arrival of Iannotti from Illinois in August. They think he is the real deal.

RE: Spring Football thread
The video was well balanced with offensive and defensive highlights

The reality was that defense dominated the better part of the day.

Offensive struggled to gain anything on the ground until the second half of the day

Jack,

Is your overall impression that you think our defense has gotten better with all the newcomers?

Or is the offensive line not as strong as last year's?

RE: Spring Football thread
Some very interesting comments.

I'd guess it will take a while for the 'new' OL to gel. Lest I be wrong what Anderson had starting spring ball was NOTHING like what finished last year with the returnees manning different positions and redshirt frosh moving into spots vacated by seniors.

RE: QBs. I'm wondering if Benz will get reps during the season as a compliment to Gillette?

I still like having two QBs who are similar but still somewhat different in skill sets. Benz might make a better QB if the team is down say two TDs or 17 points (and the need to do more throwing).

My Impression was that the defense is much improved. The LB’s just look to be reading and filling holes faster. DB's left few options for Gillett or Benz.

D-line was very active. Reese looked quick, stretched out some plays and made the tackle along the sideline.

It was interesting that Benz ran a couple of series w/ out the protection of the orange jersey. looked like they wanted to see if he was capable of taking some hits.

RE: Spring Football thread
I tried to start a Spring Game thread with no success, but here is one of the questions I was thinking:

Are we going to see EagleWarrior, EagleAttack, etc. out there Sunday for their expert opinion?

I am curious if EagleAttack will feel the DL will look better with better LB and DB play?

If I understand defense properly, a LB who can fill a hole surely makes the DL look better and LBs who can't make DLs look worse.

There is a front seven and someone has to make the tackle near the line of scrimmage.

What killed the EMU defense in '10 were all the long plays which means the LBs did not stop them.

Would be interesting to know how the new LB's have played this spring (i.e. Cudsworth, Poole, Kurtz etc.). By looking at the information provided, still lokks like English and Boyd from last years team are still starting along with Cudsworth (sp).

Looks like Thomas and Pauli at Safety and Pollard and Rose and perhaps Williams as the db's. Time will tell!

Thanks, any comments on the RBs or WRs?

I could see Poole pushing Boyd for the starting spot at SLB with how he's playing.

Cudworth appears to be doing well but I don’t see how he’ll hold up at 5’11” and 217

The posted highlights tell the RB and WR story pretty well. KT and Scott are making plays. No real standout that I’ve seen at RB.

I'm still seeing those long hand off playes from Gillet to the running back. They seem to take forever. Is it just me or does it bother you all as well?

Not my favorite, but with the pro-style, play action offense currently favored I wouldn’t expect it to change

You can thank Mike Debord for convincing English that those off-tackle play calls are absolutely essential.
