I don't think a lot of JC players want to come into a new program and be redshirted... I thought I heard that was the case with Dean. Could be wrong.

RE: the official broncos vs kent state gamethread!
Didnt catch the game. I have read and heard alot of interesting comments.
Big game indeed. But not the be all and end all.
I'm not convinced if they beat Kent they wouldnt have laid an egg against EMU or CMU, and they still can.
There is something missing in the area of mental toughness. Not a knock, just an observation. Maybe it ties into the "immaturity" comments Hawk laid out earlier and DB's comments regarding the management of the clock. Dunno.
I do know that talent for talent WMU's first six, as a unit can be as good as anyone else. Include Alex when he is on that is a certainity.
It's no secret that WMU lacks quality depth. In fact, as good as Stainbrook has been he's a weak link. But that the fact he's playing based on ability is a testament to his work in the summer and fall to put himself in a position to even be considered.
The loss of a healthy David Brown is very acute right about now. Who knows how he would have played in all this but just looking at talent he would have had a positive impact. But his absence has allowed others to develop, both Hutch and Howard.
Wednesday clearly a winnable game, particularly if this team has any attitude. But dismantling UT is not the end game. It's bouncing back playing with emotion but equally making better decisions. WMU could play less than tonite against UT and still make progress. I expect them to be down, its natural. But if you're going to realize your potential at this date you need to be able to be resilent.
One of two things play out.
This team feels sorry for itself and plays like individuals and are predictably inconsistent here on out, or . . .
They pull it together, tighten their handle, reconstitute the resolve and move it along through each opponent, rebuilding some mo.
Tourney time is peaking time. Tonite took the wind out of everyones sails. But the wind starts blowing again tomorrow. If you rig your sails properly and in time you can catch the breeze and building the needed momentum.
There will be a number of teams that are capable in Cleveland. WMU has proven it can be there - talent wise. They have even shown the mental toughness needed at BGSU and Miami. They have also shown that by facing push back Buffalo and Akron can prevail. WMU also shown that they can show up in body but absent in mind as in Toledo.
WMU has made progress in the area that bit them in Toledo. Heck, Porrini doesnt get the O board, KSU fouls and we drain tosses this story isnt written. But the variables would have still existed.
WMU is right there. Yeah, Hawk can do this or that but in the end the kids bounce, pass and shot the same ball. That's why defense and rebounding (both want to's) are the key. Consistently excel and win those battles the rest generally takes care of itself.
It will be an interesting 12 days.

RE: the official broncos vs kent state gamethread!
I didn't see the game but followed it online and about had several heart attacks. I hate that you guys play us so close and we continually throw a dagger because a lot of the time that hurts more than a beating. But kudos to your team because they do fight us pretty hard every time. For the poster that says there is a mental block against KSU, understand that we are on a ridiculous streak against the MAC West with 23 straight wins. Only Toledo and WMU has beaten KSU since 2005-06.
From our perspective, we are pulling for you the rest of the way as we will win a tiebreaker against Miami if you win the West. Also, I hope to not have to play you again! Good luck Broncs.

RE: the official broncos vs kent state gamethread!
I'd like to state my disappointment in my fellow bronco fans. Here it was the biggest game of the year, and I am standing there in the smallest crowd I've seen thus far. How much does have a loud arena and a big time home court advantage count for? I'd say at least 2 points. "But oh it was slippery Bronofaithful" Shame........ D@mn Shame

It was painfully obvious he was going to pull up for the 17 footer. To everyone but the defender. He didnt even come close to getting a hand in his face.
You joined just to post that on this thread? Really now.
I just discovered this website two days ago and hadn't signed up yet. I enjoyed reading all of your comments while watching the game on my laptop then decided to let off some steam after the loss. I appreciate your interest in my motivations for signing up, though.

Nah, no interested in motivations, especially if they're straight up, we get trolled so often you never know.
Tough loss, we all were twitchy last night, especially that tool that can't decide if he wants to give Hawk an extension or fire him in the same thought stream.

For the wont of a rebound!!!!!!!!!!! Get that last damn rebound and we set up to either win or, at worst, head into overtime. If we have a yen to win the MAC West, then the next four really winable games are ours to take. We should be favored in all four games. Told my buddy last night that a win over Kent would be great, but has nothing to do with the outcome in the west.... Take care of business and the West is ours.

It sure sets up nicely for the Broncos. Toughest team of the bunch you have at home. Play it a game at a time and that first round bye will be yours.

Tough loss-yes. But we know what they say: when the going gets tough.....
This is the time to get tough, not pout. We lead the West. This team has the best record against the East than any other team in West. The way I read that is that we can win in Cleveland, where it really counts.
MD is correct, we control our own fate. It starts against Toledo. We need to come out and take care of business. The eye must be on the big prize. A MAC West title, a bye into the Q, and then a championship in Cleveland. I have already set up my vacation time to be in the Q for a good run, and a good time. So I, for one, am not done with this team, not by a longshot. We are right in the thick of it, and I expect us to play even harder after this tough loss. 2 more wins, then a game for the MAC West tiltle at home vs. Ball State. That would be intense.

They found Porrini at Gulf Coast CC, and he's become an instant contributor. Guyton came from Mineral Community College and he's dropping 13 per game. We bring in Dean, and it's almost a given he wont help for a year. Why the one year learning curve with our JC'ers, while Geno Ford makes them instant contributors?
It might have something to do with wanting to keep their high Academic Progress Rate.
Western Michigan University is the only MAC Mens Basketball team to score NCAA D1 Top 10 % for APR (Academic Progress Rate)
