Nah... T-Bayne winning Daytona 500 made it okay.

I'm SURE we've been through worse.
I dunno. Usually the football game at Central is played before hockey gets into conference play, meaning they're not playing anyone we've heard of, and well before basketball starts.

Too bad sporting events don't end abruptly 30 seconds before regulation time, otherwise it would've been one of the best Broncos sports weekends of the season.

The defense on the last shot was deplorable. The ball handler took a few jab steps to fake a drive and the defender (cant remember who it was) retreated to create a good 3 foot separation each time. It was painfully obvious he was going to pull up for the 17 footer. To everyone but the defender. He didnt even come close to getting a hand in his face.

I'm curious if the odds are actually higher to try and hit a half court shot (aka no long throw on inbounds), as opposed to trying to Christian Laettner the throw and hit a 17 footer

It's easy to execute when you run the same play over and over and get in your comfort zone. Hawk has two lines of thinking on defense. We always stay in man, and we either switch off or we don't.
Geno Ford who played against Hawk as well as coached against him. The young pup figured out that a zone would at least stop Flen and Ward from getting off two footers. Unfortunately Hawk and his one trick pony D, refused to even try to make Kent take jump shots.

That's not when I said that, they worked it for the shot at the end of the possession to break the tie and get the lead. WE did not, story of our lives, no lead is safe unless it's 20 for us because we don't work the shot clock, work for good looks. It's glorified alley ball.

When they went zone I thought "good", our inside out game will get off and Stain will make them pay with good passing. We'll pull away, I was off like a prom dress on all accounts.

Outscored from this point on 15-6 with nothing more than one on one driving lay ups set up off high screens. This isnt the NBA. Put up a 2-3 zone and make them beat you from the perimeter.

They run a similar set to ours of offense, that probably would have worked.

I watched Kent against Drexler on Friday. Drexler ran a 2-3 much of the game, and made Kent look very average. Who did the scout on this game, the towel boy?

This was a meaningful game. Told my son, the last time I saw WMU win a meaningful game with championship implications was 2004. You were in the 9th grade........now you're a senior at Western, and still waiting.
Get used to it kid.

Said that, this is a season defining game.
Took away our chance of the NIT, regular season west championship. I don't see this group making a lot of noise in Cleveland, unless Ward goes off for a multi game run.

Have to win out for the MAC West. We could easily end up in 3rd or tied with CMU. They have a favorable schedule. Us, not so much.

Funny, every year Kent brings in a couple of JCers who become instant contributors. Fisher comes to mind, went on to become MPOY. They found Porrini at Gulf Coast CC, and he's become an instant contributor. Guyton came from Mineral Community College and he's dropping 13 per game. We bring in Dean, and it's almost a given he wont help for a year. Why the one year learning curve with our JC'ers, while Geno Ford makes them instant contributors?
