RE: 2012 Recruiting Thread
Klake, it is a great point, I was beginning to wonder what's happening on the recruiting front? Any word/thought regarding if we have some secured and not yet "verballin'"?? This has been nagging at me since it seems Toledo keeps getting commitments and our visits are also visitng EMU? No Championship or Bowl trophies in that office just yet. Looks like we lost one DT (Reed) to KU and another to Kent?? Not panic button time yet, but any intelligence on recruiting momemtum is appreciated. Go Huskies!

Probably wishful thinking, but I get the sense that DD has a bunch of undisclosed verbals.

Parmalee seemed to be a verbal long before it was known and the second it came out KU offered him and stole him away. The head recruiter (Ryan) has a lot of recruiting experience from his days at USC, I bet they have a bunch in their pockets.

Thank you. I was waiting for someone to say we have tons of silent verbals.

Don"t get me wrong, I know our staff can recruit and we have a great sell, just sensing there is something not in alignment...We need to land the big tuna at some point. Was hoping Chaq Reed, but losing Murdock and Dubose shouldn't have happened, especially Dubose with Otis (Chicago Hubbard) having a great career and Jones (Same) on board. Who knows, can't figure out the motives. I thought I was in la la land, but I talked to Anthony Standifer at a spring practice and really thought we had a chance with him. Finish strong!

He's being recruited as a corner. He lists BC, NIU, and Air Force as his top three.

FWIW, Standifer decommitted from Michigan in mid-December. It was apparently a mutual decision with the Michigan coaching staff that he look elsewhere. Could be grade related, could be Michigan decided they didn't have room for him, etc.

Simley’s Hazelett Commits to Northern Illinois

http://invergroveheights.patch.com/artic...n-illinois

At least one member of last year’s Simley High football team will represent the squad at the National Letter of Intent signing table Feb. 1.

Spartans coach Rex King said Cody Hazelett, a 6-foot-2 linebacker and tight end for Simley, has verbally committed to continue his playing career and education at Northern Illinois University.

Hazelett is expected to play defense for the Huskies, the Mid-American Conference champions and winners of the recent GoDaddy.com Bowl.

...

CODY HAZELETT

Hazelett’s play on defense this past season—recording 80 tackles, including six sacks and 14 tackles for loss—caught the attention of a number of schools, among them South Dakota, Northern Iowa and recently crowned Football Championship Subdivision champ North Dakota State.

But, King said, Northern Illinois offered a scholarship first, and Hazelett jumped at the opportunity to play at the Bowl Championship Series school.

“Northern Illinois really did its homework on Cody,” King said. “They came up here and saw his work ethic and his skills. They were the first ones to the table with an offer, and Corey wanted to get the whole recruiting thing over with.”

During winter break, Hazelett—who also wrestles for Simley’s nationally ranked squad—missed a wrestling tournament so he could take his official recruiting visit to Northern Illinois. He liked what he saw at the DeKalb, IL school.

“Northern Illinois is getting a great player,” King said. “Cody made a good decision.”

Like his stat line. Only thing that makes me nervous about this kid is that Kill had to pass on him in his own backyard for us to get him. Not sure what that means.

JK isn't the best scout (the many reasons why pointed out several times on this board), so I wouldn't think anything of it.

Did this kid even go to a camp?
He is not in rivals and seems to be unknown. I like it.

Usually these guys pop up on signing day. Never heard their name mentioned anywhere but we sign them. This one slipped out early. lol

FYI Charlie Miller is hoping to get an offer from GT now that Stephen Hill decided last week to leave early.

Offer to KJ Maye from Mobile.

http://rivals.yahoo.com/highschool/footb...aye-133835

Visiting on the 27th. He likes Minnesota but they might be out of schollys. Check out his video. He played QB in high school and looks a lot like DaRon Brown did at Morgan Park. Assume he would play wideout for us.

Would it be reasonable to say to a recruit that it would be more likely that NIU could make it to a BCS game before Minnesota does?

Not the direction things are moving. It's looking like a more traditional contractual tie-in system is coming back in some form.
