I wouldn't try to find a TE to play TE. Take a receiver with a huge ass frame and get him in the weight room. Like 1981 says, find those guys with the right body and make them into players. The best way to do that is to go after the type of kid that 05 recommends: tall and athletic. Figure out where the hell he'll play after a year in the weight room.
We haven't emphasized it as much as we used to due to the WR talent and depth we have had the last two years, but we've always had a lot of success lining up two TEs or going unbalanced. If those MAC Will linebackers could handle that big ass hoss coming off the ball on them, they wouldn't be weakside linebackers.
It's the "projectable body" thing I see when it comes to young baseball prospects. It's where dealing with young athletes is more art than science. Projecting out what can be done with the frame with the benefit of being in a college program. To me, this is where the real finds are for coaches in recruiting.
Had a beer with Coach Malory at the annual golf outing about 6-8 years ago and he described the process he went thru when recruiting kids and trying to measure potential. Fascinating. I never had the pleasure of playing for him, but he is one of the most impressive individuals I have ever met in college athletics. He is the epitome of what a college coach should be. Intelligence. Character. Decency. Tough but fair. WINNER.

He had Indiana going to bowl games consistently and even challenged for a Big Ten title when he had Anthony Thompson. Anyone who's seen IU over the last 15 years knows how dang near impossible that is.
I had a great time once talking to Coach Novak about an IU-Kentucky game I was at in 1995. We agreed that UK would be a great game to schedule, if we could get them to pick up the phone. Six hours away, SEC, and a good shot at winning.

RE: 2012 Recruiting Thread
I was hoping for a package with Mario Jones. I fear he might be one Beckman will target, but it looks like he's been solid all along. Good kid, spoke to him and his Mom at practice. I am hoping for 1 more OL (Marlow from OH or the former CPS kid who's at Butte JC in CA) and LB or DB (can never have enough). Does anyone know if Scott Taylor will play OL or DL? He has all state as a DL. Go Huskies!

Local kid - left U of I - right? Is that the same kid?
Yep, same kid. He's from Downers Grove, left UI after last year.

I wouldn't mind if NIU took a good hard look at Whitmer. He just got lost at U of I between O'Toole and Scheelhouse

not sure we need a QB... It all depends on how the staff perceives McIntosh. Prefer no jC QB unless he is an stud 4 or 5 stars type.

Don't know if there would be interest from either side but Taylor Graham (Wheaton North) is rumored to be transferring from Ohio St

Glasgow's other offers were: Wyoming, Illinois State, South Dakota and North Dakota State. Not exactly a highly-rated OL either (2 star). No loss.

RE: 2012 Recruiting Thread
Noticed yesterday while watching the U of I BB game on the U that one of the Toledo 3 * football verbals has decommitted and will be attending Iowa, not sure who it was. Sounds like the Toledo recruiting class is quickly disintegrating. Similiar to us last year, their unnamed coach will only have a month to make up the time.

He may get PT there but playing for a program that is in the basement of it's conference can't be alot of fun. Wouldn't you rather play for a conference champion?
