RE: 2012 Recruiting Thread
Will be interesting to see if Tyler Pitts stays at DT for us. He's 6'6" and 300lbs. Frank Boenzi is at 310ish. He could be the big bad boy we need in there.

Josiah Price is a small town guy who has been getting a lot of attention from the BCS types. He's one of those who if the BCS offers late is probably going to go BCS. Would be great to get him. Another guy that would be good to offer is Langston Newton from Carmel, Ind. He's also 6'4"/6'5" 240 and has good wheels. Nationally ranked shot putter. Maybe should have Chandler talk to him, about how well ex-shot putters do at NIU. Has lower level BCS offer(s).

RE: 2012 Recruiting Thread
Again I am new to this recruiting stuff but according to Scout we still have 5 offers on the table for this years class. According to my numbers we have 2+ open scholarships now.

DT Johnny Bertucci
WR Chris Milton
CB Giles Chapman
WR Malcolm Moulton (JuCo)
CB Herzel Glashen (JuCo)

If this is current then I would be interested to see if we go hard after the JuCo CB Glashen during spring recruiting to get some depth for the next 2 years.

Actually looking at his rivals picture there was a guy on the west sidelines with some big dreadlocks like him. Was that one of our past guys or could it have been Glashen?

we don't have 2 open rides. Here is how it works. We will have 20-25 rides to give out, not sure how many. The staff may offer 50 or 60 players. It is only when a player verbally accepts is a ride used up and that is not quite true because until the kid signs, he can back out. If you have 3 qbs offered, as time gets closer to signing the coaches may tell the qbs that the first one who accepts gets the ride. Don't put a lot of stock in how many offers we give. Only matters is who signs

I understand that most situations result in the first one that signs gets the offer but...

Since signing day this year we have only given out 1 ride to Marks and 3 players that were signed on recruiting day previously have transferred or dropped. So how don't we have at least 2 open scholarships right now?

NIU blog entry on the spring game and prospective recruits.

http://www.niuhuskies.com/blog/2011/04/s...the-g.html

"The day began early for Northern Illinois coaches as the Huskies held "Junior Day" beginning at 10 a.m. Nearly 100 prospective student-athletes, along with their parents and families, were on hand much to the delight of recruiting coordinator and defensive line coach Ryan Nielsen. The juniors were broken up into groups, toured the Yordon Center and heard presentations from on NIU's academic support, eligibility and compliance and sports performance programs, and interacted directly with the Huskie assistant coaches prior to the preparations for practice began. Both Nielsen and Doeren were thrilled with the turnout and the obvious level of interest in Northern Illinois Football."

Quote:Two Culver Military Academy football players have made their college choices.

Wide receiver Juwan Brescacin will attend Northern Illinois University. Utility man Tom O’Neill is headed to the University of Chicago.

A member of the Eagles’ Class 3-A state runner-up boys basketball team, the 6-foot-6, 215-pound Brescacin caught 44 passes for 697 yards and 12 touchdowns during the 2010 campaign.

Good choices by both guys. 6'6 is serious height.

RE: 2012 Recruiting Thread
Here's some video of the lanky Mr. Brescacin: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tlG4gi_RGuo

He looks pretty good and you can't teach 6-6 as they say. Check out the play at the 3:50 mark where he tips the ball to himself.

Here's a note from a U. of Minnesota blog. Brescacin visited Minny in December:

"Juwan Brescacin is a curious under the radar prospect. After transferring to Culver Academies (located in Nowheresville, IN) from the greater Toronto area (Yes, he’s Canadian) as a basketball prospect, the 6’6″ 215 lbs. Brescacin took to the gridiron and subsequently made Indiana state honorable mention class 3A two years in a row. While he doesn’t have an offer yet, Juwan wins the award for “Best Optimus Prime lookalike in total domination over helplessly overmatched, thigh high, lower athletic class opponents.”

RE: 2012 Recruiting Thread
From the look of it, Brescacin profiles as pretty raw. Has size and athleticism. Assuming the effort is there on the field, it's easy to see him working his way from walk on to scholarship player over time.

He'll be an interesting project. Low risk, high reward.
