TCU bolts to the Big 12
BYU can go Indy or hope to join Big 12
MW out of sympathy picks up USU, ID, SJSU & Hawaii and goes to 12 teams.
SBC picks up NMSU & LTU to go to 12.
Nobody is left out. Wont happen, but I feel sorry for those left over from the realignment...I'd hate to be in those shoes.
Here's the problem.
1. TCU doesn't bring enough dollars to make them worth the Big 12's time.
2. BYU if they were a top B12 candidate would have been invited a few months ago.
3. There's no crying in baseball and no sympathy in college athletics business decision making.
As I mentioned earlier, back when the WAC raided the Sun Belt and we were two teams under the NCAA minimum to be an FBS conference, no one rowed any lifeboats out to save us. When the WAC was offered ideas to consolidate that would have saved nearly everyone they scoffed. No one was ready to save us and if CUSA hadn't been so fool arrogrant about their quality they would have grabbed one or two teams and killed us off.
We were lucky and we were spared but had UNT caved and we had been stuck with Idaho and without UNT, the Vandals would have gone under and while FIU and FAU might have gotten past the initial hump, we might not have gotten another FCS in time to save the Sun Belt.
The WAC has been busy dying for about a decade. They were at 8 teams when Boise and Tech joined. Hawaii and San Jose State are the only ones left from that day. Since 1999 SIXTEEN schools have bailed that league.
We have a choice. Leave well enough alone and Texas State and UTSA and whomever else out west will trudge up to FBS and odds are down the road they'll get raided again or we put them down and end this. San Jose State has come close to folding when the WAC was healthy, that patient isn't going to improve. Idaho has a screwed up situation and they may not make it either and I hate that because they've been a stand-up program but they need to look hard at what is going on. Hawaii is enough of a noveltly act to hang around. USU? Who knows if they can survive. NMSU and Tech are blessed by geography and can move on.
