BE
Just curious about something I want to ask some fellow Pirates about. As a Pirate fan, do you really want ECU in the BE because you feel its a great place for ECU or just for the BCS label and money?
Personally I don't think the BE is the best fit for ECU, but fo lack of options it may be the only fit. It would take a miracle for an ACC expansion or replacement with the way the UNC legislation is, and an even bigger miracle for the nearly impossible SEC invitation. The BE is a basketball first conference and lets face it, that's not ECU's strong point. I think they would eventually improve in BB in the BE, but always be a bottom of the league team. As far as football goes, Pitt, WVU, Cincy, and UL would be great competition and I would look forward to those games. The rest of the conference schedule would be pretty lackluster to me. Pitt and WVU are definately the most hard nosed football teams and schools for that matter, and really are the two that I see ECU having the most in common with. The more I look at it, to me its not the best cultural fit for ECU. Any thoughts from fellow Pirates?
To all the BE fans that might read this, I'm not bashing the BE, just discussing what all of you probably already feel about ECU as well.

RE: BE
I don't think the Big East is a perfect fit for East Carolina but we can make ait a great fit.
Conference USA, while full of like-minded also shafted institutions, is nationally considered a lower level. Being in North Carolina, the ACC and the SEC make the most sense but I will take the Big East in a heartbeat.
To look back and see what the impact was for Louisville, Cincy, and South Florida is staggering. You now have Louisville being mentioned in pipedreams for the Big 12-2, the SEC and even the ACC. Look back at the difference it made for Virginia Tech. The difference from being a Have vs a Have-Not is clear. You give us the same playing field as UNC and NCState and we will dominate. I personally think the SEC should take on a "pet" project but I think the Big East will be a great home for us.
I would welcome playing the teams from the Big East. (We will get our basketball on track!)
Now the USF matchups... that will get quite heated (eventhough I think I will prefer Ruffin)

Well, truth be told... since the SEC is a football first conference AND a POWER baseball conference we'd be a better fit there in those regards. However, the BE is the only BCS conference that is undermanned at the moment and we have a longer history playing a lot schools from it.

RE: BE
It's only about the BCS $. Honestly, I'd prefer to play most of the schools in CUSA over the BE schools.

True on that as well
And I am sorry but I don't see how UCon is sexier than UAB to most ECU fans as far as conference games.... or Rutgers vs Southern Miss.
When you look at the BE its WVU for football and nearly the whole conference for bball. Granted we played Syracuse and Pitt back in the day.

Completely agree. ECU seems to be able to get WVU in home and home, and im sure if it wouldn't be too much of a stretch to get Pitt too. other than those I dont see much attraction to BE football.
