To mount an invasion....you need to have an ally that will allow you a staging area(as we had in WW2) and the subsequent supply lines to feed it...or you need to be on the border of the land you wish to invade. Neither of these things are even a slight possibility today. We are very geographically blessed and both of our neighbors are heavily reliant upon America for their incomes. Red Dawn was Hollywood....enjoy it...WTF..but let's not buy into it for more that entertainment. 04-cheers.

Here is how I see an imvasion happening.

Russia suffers worst wheat harvest in 55 years. Labor and food riots in Ukraine, so Russian troops invade. Cuba, Nicaragua and Venezuela reach troop strength goals of 500,000. El Salvador and Honduras fall to Communist / Socialist governments. The Green Party gains control of the German Parliament and demands withdrawal of nuclear weapons from European soil. Mexico plunged into narco revolution... NATO dissolves, Turkey goes Islamic - and then the United States stands alone.

The first wave of the Russian attack on America comes in disguised as commercial charter flights same way they did in Afghanistan in '80. Only these are crack Airborne outfits. They take the passes in the Rockies.

These initial attacks are coordinated with selective nuke strikes and the missiles are a helluva lot more accurate than we thought. The Russians took out the silos in the Dakotas and other key points of communication like Omaha, Washington, Kansas City.

After the first waves, infiltrators come up illegal from Mexico, though they are Cubans mostly. They manage to infiltrate SAC bases in the Midwest, several down in Texas and wreak a helluva lot of havoc. The infliltrators open up the door down south, and the whole Cuban & Nicaraguan armies come walking right through, and roll right up through the Great Plains.

They get as far as north as Cheyenne, and east across to Kansas. The USA would probably hold them at the Rockies and the Mississippi, but the Russians reinforced with 60 divisions, sending three whole army groups across the Bering Strait into Alaska, cut the pipeline, across Canada and link up here in the middle of the country, but the military now has time to recover and will stop their butt cold.

After that the lines will pretty much stabilize.

Europe figures that twice in one century was enough, and they're sitting this one out. All except England, and they won't last. Who else *is* on our side? Around six hundred million screaming Chinamen.

The Russians need to take us in one piece, and that's why they've invaded. That's why they won't use nukes after the first strike; and we won't either, not on our own soil. The whole damn thing's pretty conventional a couple weeks in.

You even look like Powers Boothe...

But really I was hoping for someone to say " Last I heard, there were a billion screaming Chinamen. " so I could say "There were" and throw my scotch on the fire.

IMHO, they screwed up.

The first sequel should be entitled "Alba Rosa".

The second Sequel 紅色的曙光

Or they could just let us elect our own communist president.
I suppose it is possible but not likely.

Yea, and you'd have to hit every damn container. Time for a fuel-air explosive to take them all out.
