Jacksonville (Official Game Thread) 02/18/10
We owe them some payback for the beatdown we received in Florida. We have two games at home, and either one of them guarantees us a spot in the tournament. If we can take this game from Jacksonville we have a good shot at getting the 7, or even better the 6 seed. It is time for us to go on another run. We have proven that we can play with Lipscomb, Belmont, and UNF...we have yet to prove that with Jacksonville, but I believe that tomorrow night is our night.
I really shouldn't have a good feeling about this game, but for some reason I do. I didn't think we would take either ETSU or Campbell (although Campbell barely escaped our grasp), but I am hoping for a great game from our young team, and hoping for a game that we can build some momentum on, as we inch closer to tournament time.
Go Owls!

Obviously, I'm hoping for a KSU win. Jacksonville is quick and they are good on the boards. Boxing out for rebound will be a key in this game. If JU is allowed second and third opportunities at the basket, they win. If you control the boards, you win. They are not an exceptionally good shooting team, so they depend on additional chances.

I personally think Ben Smith is overrated. Sure he gets his numbers, but when I've watched him he fails in the big moments often because of his small size and tendency to force shots.

If thats the key to the game thats a very bad thing for KSU. We dont box out well.

Where has everyone gone? Looks like the excitement from that six game winning run has evaporated...
I have a feeling we'll get walloped here but hoping for the best.

Hoping for a KSU win. We could use the help. Hope you win the rest of your games.

Disheartening beat for us. Really thought we had a good chance at that. Simply put, when the game got down to crunch time Jacksonville was able to get good looks by attacking the basket, and we were taking contested jump shots. We got away from our penetrating offense, and instead of fading farther and farther away from the basket. We played pretty well for most of the game, and did a good job at just about everything except for getting rebounds (which it seemed to me every time we got a big stop, Jacksonville would secure the offensive rebound).
Hopefully Stetson will get beat tonight and get that monkey off of our back, so that we know we are in the tournament. At this point I think the best we could do is to win the #7 seed, and there really isn't that much difference in #8 or #7...but beating UNF would sure be nice. Anyone who was there want to give their comments?

We dont box out at all. We have good enough size to rebound well, but we dont box out plain and simple.
I would like to beat UNF, but right now i'd favor them. We lost a lot of swagger when USC upstate beat us again.

You know, boxing out is not a science. Either you want it or you don't. You don't have to be able to jump to the moon, all you have to do is box out and be willing to give up your body and get beat up under the boards. remember Dennis Rodman.

Bruin nailed it. It was the story of the second half. It was sickening to see the second, third, fourth opportunities that team was getting. I know we have to play a full 40 to claim victory, but the Owls should have had that one.
Anybody know why Ladaris played a total of ZERO minutes tonight?

We could have really used Ladaris. I hope we sit him until he is 100% healthy. We will need him in the tournament if we want to make some noise. The worst part is that we had a chance to win without our best rebounder. Get well soon Ladaris.
