"unofficial' Where are they going (FB) thread
Apparently a number of kids have or will be leaving the FB program (if the other thread is correct).
Where are they transferring to?
Big Ten players transfer down to the MAC or even Grand Valley State.
Where do EMU players transfer?
Curious where players like McMahon will end up.
They are no I-AA schools in Michigan.
There are a LOT of D-II teams (GLIAC) but D-II has limited scholarships so only top prospects get full scholarships.

iF TRUE AND A NUMBER ARE LEAVING, I LOOK FOR A FULL CLASS OF 25 TO BE RECRUITED ALONG WITH A NUMBER OF PREFERRED WALK-ONS BEING BROUGHT IN DUE TO THE ATTRITION
AFTER LAST SEASON, THE PROGRAM WILL GO THROUGH A TTOTAL REBUILDING PROCESS UNDER ENGLISHO

Steve poses some interesting questions, I question the demand for a lot of our current players brought in under Genyck.

I question the validity of the "30 players" rumor. Until we get names and confirmation then it's just a rumor. I'm sure that there are some players leaving. But 30? Does that include the seniors and the players we already know about?

RE: "unofficial' Where are they going (FB) thread
I don't question the demand at all for the scholie players, many may find spots near their homes IAA or Div II teams there. Some may end up where former Genyk assistants landed. My thinking is that guys like McMahon and Sanders may have been "run off" so to speak. That is you don't fit into my system here and therefore you have no future with the program. Hence some will volunteer to go elsewhere. Others not and apparently been asked to leave. I can' t say the same for the walk ons.
I honestly think there was mutual frustration during the season it appears that many of Genyk's players didn't buy into the English system and English was less than supportive of the players based on his media comments. Look at his comments after last spring practice and after fall practice about the team and then after each game and you can sense the frustration. Just because you don't fit into English's system doesn't mean you don't have Div I talent. Sanders and McMahon are good examples.
I hope English has recruits lined up to take these guys' spots and the recruits are better than the players who are leaving. I guess we'll see.

RE: "unofficial' Where are they going (FB) thread
This thread (and others) are about to become 'nature abhors a vaccum' which means if we don't know the correct info we'll guess, surmize, speculate, etc. etc.
The bottom line is that we do NOT know much and until we should be very careful with our speculation. Incorrect information is usually worse then no information.
As pointed out: 30?
Is that number correct?
Is it seniors + those who otherwise could come back?
Unfortunately, coaches can't talk so we get mostly speculation.
I'm taking that 30 number with a grain of salt until I know a lot more.

RE: "unofficial' Where are they going (FB) thread
I will mention that someone PM me and indicated that the 30 number I mentioned that I'd take 'with a grain of salt' is no idle speculation.
This is a story, possibly big story, to watch.
If this story comes to pass, it is a blockbuster story for the FB program and will GREATLY effect the program for better or worse for years to come.
It could effect the landscape of college FB maybe in the MAC, but probably more so in say the GLIAC if players leave EMU and decide to transfer to a school where they can be immediately eligible.

To get back to this thread.
I've heard from a good source that the 30+ number is why out of line.
I hear less then or around 10.
Don't what the other 20 or so are? Seniors? Walk ons?

I figured that 30 was way too high. No coach in his right mind would do that because he would never recover from it. A school can only bring in 25 new scholarship players a year.
Until someone delivers real facts then this subject is nothing but rumor.

"We wanted to recruit football players that love football," he said at Mid-American Conference media day at Ford Field on Friday. "I felt like we had a lot of guys who really didn't love football."
Not every player left for this type of reason. One of last year's walk-ons is now at SGVSU because he'll get a better opportunity to play and some scholarship $$$.

RE: "unofficial' Where are they going (FB) thread
I'll repeat what others have previously posted:
Sanders is at Illinois State, McMahon and David Fox are at Grand Valley.
Some of the departed it appears would have been fifth year seniors who for all intents and purposes "graduated".

RE: "unofficial' Where are they going (FB) thread
These numbers are a moving target. There may be attrition due to the coaching change, but there is always attrition going on anyway. Every class starts out with around 35 guys....20 to 25 scholarship athletes plus maybe 10 or so walk ons. Typically around 12 to 15 guys see it thru to the end, so around 20 guys from each class don't. The fact that some are red shirted and some are not muddies the waters further, but bottom line - 35 come in and, and in a good year, around 15 walk out onto the field on senior night.
Off the top on my head here are some of the scholarship athletes that had eligibility remaining that are gone since the start of last season...
Sanders
Serruto
Seilas
Gotham
Long
McMahon
Fox
Kicker (drawing blank)
Willams (QB)
Bittner
Maybe you guys can remember some others.
If each class is averaging the loss of 5 guys or so per year (including walk ons), then the program is normally losing at least 20 guys per year, probably more when you factor in transfers and jucos helping to make up the "15" on senior night.
I think the turnover this past year has been higher due to the coaching change, but maybe by 10 players or so...not by 30+. Again, there's always pretty heavy attrition going on...
