who cares. NIU's administration sure as hell hasn't shown commitment to the MAC over the years.

Temple is a fun addition.. a household name, they are starting to do very well. keep 'em around, see what happens.

So until 2200 AD then??

Seriously are you not putting the cart before the horse 03-wink...

Nope. It'll happen.

You don't think, maybe, rolling around in the BE head will be "Sure they can win in the MAC" but three season in the BE and they will be losing and people will be staying home?

Temple is going to have to do more than 'win' in the MAC They are going to have to have a season like this (where they are sniffing the top 25) beating teams like Navy (and better) and winning the MAC year after year.

Can Temple do all that? Sure, will they? remains to be seen

Like I said cart before the horse...

The question is what does the MAC see as it future? Does it really believe in -13- members for football? Is someone(not Temple) in the MAC about to take a fall?

95% of the MAC fans want Temple as a FULL member. 95% of the Temple fans only want football for now with eyes open for a better opportunity. Common sense tells you, that is not a basis for a good relationship. The MAC did Temple a big favor by being a weigh station as they get their house in order. Temple has played more MAC teams in BB the last couple of years and added exposure to the Philly market.

IMO, Temple is overall good for the MAC, but I want more.

Bringing Temple all in, the way things are now, is an epic fail

It makes the divisional imbalance permanent and adds it to hoops as well. If Temple comes all in we need to bring someone else in to keep balance

If temple wants to stay in past 2010 we need another FBS member who contract is the same length as Temple's if that can't be found let the go indy again..

There are no other choices

With the economy being crappy, and Temple helping the MAC subsidize its bowl tie-ins, I would tend to agree that they will stay. I do think that the MAC will want a long-term commitment and Temple will probably only provide it if they could have a buyout clause built-in to leave early.

Although I doubt Temple will ever go back to BCS status, they are spending a lot of coinage on an NFL stadium and coach (well paid by MAC standards) and seem to believe it is in the realm of possibility.

RE: Keep or Drop Temple?
Temple fans are something else. They act like they're god's gift to the MAC. And I'll tell everyone how I voted. I voted to add a 14th football only member to balance the football side of the MAC and... ugh... keep Temple. Temple looks to have put together a solid football program and has a good commitment to football. No matter how much hoping by Temple fans that the Big East is going to sweep them off their feet and take them away, the Big East will most likely stay the status quo. The Big East is making money. No reason to make any changes.

I just wish their damn fans would put a big fat cork in it. Has anyone encountered an appreciative Temple fan online? Does Temple even have a football program today without the MAC stepping in and giving them a football lifeline?

And stop with the stupid A-10 versus MAC basketball comparisons. What does that have to do with anything? I guess all MAC basketball teams should just forfeit the games against Temple and save travel costs.

Maybe my next poll will be more "Smack Talk" worthy and we'll get to vote on fan irritation levels. I'll mail my ballot in marked TEMPLE #1 (NIU #2).

RE: Keep or Drop Temple?
Whether or not the MAC is good for Temple basketball, TU has a choice to make. It really is the MAC or nothing for Temple football. They cannot survive as an independent and nobody else seems willing to take them.

So if the MAC actually grows a spine and moves all-in on Temple, the board is going to have to decide if football or basketball (and the other sports) is more important.

Of course, this will never happen, so it's an imaginary scenario.

I think it's the same number of Houston losses to UTEP until the Big 12 comes calling. Nice misspelling of 'Villanova', champ. 03-shhhh

RE: Keep or Drop Temple?
I didn't realize this was going to be such a hot debate. First, there is no way i want Temple to become an all sports member in the MAC. If it comes to that then i think Temple needs to get on their knees and beg someone to let them in for football. Temple has way too much tradition with the core A10 schools that i would never want to give that up unless we joined the Big East or a spin off.

I feel for football that right now, and even in the near future, the MAC is the best place for us. We still have a long way to go, a lot further then most Temple people think, until we really make a name for us. It doesn't happen after one or two seasons rather several to really become an established name. Until that happens we should be happy to have what i consider twelve peers to compete with football wise.

The MAC is not good for Temple Basketball... bottom line...

Temple is "now"... good for MAC football...

Which Basketball Conference would you choose 03-idea

A10

MAC

Temple does nothing for MAC football. The MAC saved Temple from a spot in the Colonial Athletic Association. The MAC saved D1 TU football.

If the commish had some balls he'd tell Temple all in or get out. TU now knows they need the MAC to survive. Let them go indy and we will see how they fare against their "new" conference members Delaware and Nova in the upcoming years.

Being that you are a historian of Temple football, let it be known had it not been for some money from 3 wealthy alumni you would have gone the way of Nova BEFORE they returned. TU was on life support before it joined he MAC. You leave the MAC to another conference you owe your existance to the MAC. If the MAC requests your exit and you go indy, you are done.

You joining the MAC for everything (you guys tend to believe your bball program is much better than what it is btw) would do wonders for your athletic program. Its not like your history was not built in that powerful ECC basketball conference ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/East_Coast_...ivision_I) ) up until the mid eighties than the Eastern Eight, which sucked to a conference that has a member hat does nlot ofer schollies.

I don't have any misconceptions about the Big 12 trying to get Houston to join. Also, y'all have had a great season. I think y'all have beaten one team that currently has a winning record.
