According to the report, ExxonMobil has funneled nearly $16 million between 1998 and 2005 to a network of 43 advocacy organizations that seek to confuse the public on global warming science.

Did you actually read it? The UCS continues to embarrass themselves. They are also the ones that said missile defense couldn't work.

I skimmed through to the parts where they detailed the bolded claim above.

Anything more specific or related to AGW to add?

Why do we keep beating each other up on this one ????

I believe most of us agree that the Earth goes thru "Cyclic Changes" that include Weather, Climate (since Libs want to separate Weather and Climate now), Volcanic/Tectonic Activity, Floods/Drought, Snow/Lack of Snow, and on and on.

The Earth is not being affected by our menial puttering upon her in the gross way Al Gore and the Real Tinfoil Troop are screaming it is.

I'm actually willing to listen to any evidence that the Earth is being affected by human activity.

6B people, w/ machines and factories running 24/7 over the course of decades, could have a cumulative effect.
I'm willing to listen.

But, you damn well better give me evidence, and not conjecture, not hyperbole, not projections, not logical fallacies, not faulty sensor measurements, not oil company conspiracy theories, not demonstrably flawed models...if you want me to believe you know what's going on.

I'd be very interested in having you explain how that's related to climate change. It's something akin to claiming that the Tsunami in December 2004 was related to global warming/climate change (or worse, god's punishment for wearing bikinis).

You don't believe pole shifts can be caused by climatic change?

That hits the nail squarely on the head. Instead, we get, "The debate is over. You're all neanderthals. You're all flat-Earthers. GW is real and we're all gonna die unless you freepers accept a 90% tax on everything from ice cream to RVs."

...but I see NO intelligent debate coming from the left. Just the notion that some unproven theory is, in fact, fact. Riiggghhhtttttt....t.

Regardless of whether he looked it up...what was your point!?

Is it that the past decade of mild temps don't mean climate change, but the prior decade of warm temps does mean climate change?

Seriously, I'd like you to espouse an opinion with facts to support it.

Nope - are you suggesting they are? Nor do I believe that plate tectonics are caused by climate change.

Do you believe in pole shifts?

Also, no, I don't believe climate change causes plates to move, "subduct", or expand.

However, there are ancient seabeds in the Sahara. What is your explanation?

I'm confusing magnetic reversal with pole shifts, of which I was generally ignorant. I don't know much about this nor the credibility of theories that ice accumulation could cause the shift.

(04-08-2009 07:20 PM)Rebel Wrote:  However, there are ancient seabeds in the Sahara. What is your explanation?

It occurs to me that maybe we're arguing different phenomena. There are also artifacts of sea life in Colorado. The only possible explanation for that is tectonic shift over a very long period of time. I'm not as familiar with the Sahara, but my assumption is that it would also take tectonic shifts to accomplish that. If you're talking about areas that are below sea level, then clearly there could have been a sea there at one time if not for climate change. A few minutes with google, and it looks like I'm way off base.

Please accept my apologies for this diversion.

RE: Better crank up the air conditioners
There's also an ancient riverbed going from east to west in the United States that, IIRC, was about the size of the Amazon. Also, the Gobi desert used to be plush marshes and fertile land.

My point was that the Earth changes. It's always happened. Climate changes. Poles shift. Reversals of the poles have probably occurred. Hell, the Earth is over 4 billion years old. I think it's pretty arrogant to think that, as George Carlin stated, some aluminum cans and plastic bags is going to destroy this planet.

Do these idiots even read the weather channel? I was cold as hell here this morning and it's supposed to drop to 31 tonight.

Yesterday I saw a funny headline, "Chicago blanketed by 4 inches of global warming". (Snow)
Do idiots like you even know the difference between weather and climate. Oh wait. You just proved you don't know the difference so it is obvious idiots like you don't know the difference.

Oh hell no. Don't give me that "climate" change ****. You guys said "global warming".

Make up your collective f'n minds. You can't change the vernacular to better suit your argument. ...of which you have none. Hell, I believe in climate change. EVERYONE believes in climate change. It's the reason there are ancient seabeds in the Sahara and the reason the top half of the US was covered in ice at one point in time.
Sorry. I believe that global warming will lead to cooling in some places like the midwest(global warming will evaporate more water and cause areas to get more snow thus keeping temperatures cooler for longer periods thus shorter warm seasons and going to cooler temps faster bringing in more snow and repeat year after year) thus the use of climate change vs. straight global warming but I believe global warming is a large part of climate change.

Ok, so when did this happen?

You keep making these claims Robert...I want to see some evidence to demonstrate they're facts. That's the part you never really do. That's why your ideas are routinely considered stupid.
Go look it up. Many of the "gw is a hoax" guys are working for(thus being paid by) big oil and the coal industry. I am not making this up.
