nice intelligent post. I get that you never liked them since they came here a few years ago. And to some degree, I'm beginning to agree with the Heisley stuff.
Question for you: if this team had complete 100% local ownership, would you still hate them? My guess is yes.
Even I am not 100% sure about that but I would at least not laugh so hard at their losing. I DON'T like the NBA. I haven't for a long time. Nashvegas got the good pro sport and we got the shaft. That is how I see it.
Hold on, Heisley just called me and asked if I could suit up for the next game for $50. Times must be hard for the grizzle. lol
see, if you had simply left off that last paragraph, you would be making strides.
I do understand where you're coming from, finally. I don't love the NBA either, but this is my hometown's first and only pro sports franchise. And yes, we did get the shaft, in a major way. I choose not to take it out on the Grizzlies.

Have fun while it lasts because it probably won't last much longer.

Reminds me of the Tic Price era when we were losing so much....I HATED the Tigers. Sarcasm of course.
Grizz haters will also hate on Cal when he leaves. It's just in their nature.

RE: NTR- Tonight's Grizzlie Attendance???
So I was bored and went back and looked at the oldest thread in this forum. Those pages are PLASTERED with Grizz material. I bet every other post has something to do with the Grizzlies. Further proof that Memphis full of fair weather fans. There is no attendance issue. When (or if) we start winning again, the fans start piling in.

It seems to me (from a far distance) that the Grizz operate like an NBA franchise that just happens to be located in Memphis, instead of a Memphis sports franchise that happens to play in the NBA. They have failed to endear themselves to the city. Heisley should have sold the team to local investors when he had the chance. I think that would have changed the perception a great deal.

I think you summed it up nicely. It also doesn't help when the GM goes on local radio and admits that he would have drafted Robert Swift over Al Jefferson had he had the chance to and then doesn't understand why the radio host laughs at him.

Heisley seems to think that by merely hiring Gene Bartow Memphis would fall in love.
Marketing isn't what it could be...
Coaching isn't what it could be...
and
Management isn't what it could be...
So, we shouldn't be surprised when the grizzlies do poorly. They don't market themselves well. They need to be playing an exhibition game in Knoxville, Nashville, Jackson, Little Rock, and Chattanooga every once in a while. They could actually make money if they tried to attract attention from outside of Shelby county. Mississippi, Arkansas, and Tennessee all have populations with little attention currently focused on professional basketball.
Not to mention that the coaching, management, and playing combination couldn't beat some development league teams.

RE: NTR- Tonight's Grizzlie Attendance???
The primary reason I still like to tune into the Grizz games....OJ Mayo. He is a special player. Had he been a Memphis Tiger most of the franchises woes would be overlooked by my fellow Tiger fan brethren. Most of the games are on TV and part of my Direct TV package so I am already paying for them anyway. So it's basically FREE for me to watch the Grizz. My 3 year old son, who is a huge Tiger fan, also loves Mayo. They currently provide 3 quarters of good Basketball...then their youth begins to show itself and we fade. Add Blake Griffin to this team and we are pretty solid.

RE: NTR- Tonight's Grizzlie Attendance???
Good assessment, but I wouldn't give the 3 quarters of good basketball yet. I would say more like 2 and a half. We start out slow in the first quarter usually then start to pick it up near the end. Second and third quarters are always good but the fourth quarter is where we start to fade usually. The Grizzlies main problem right now is that they have absolutely no depth. Darko Milicic is garbage. Quinton Ross, Greg Buckner, Darius Miles, Marko Jaric. All garbage. Hakim Warrick plays better off the bench so he may be the only good bench player we have but knowing Heisley, he will let Hak walk instead of paying him money at the end of this year.
