Boy can I get behind that. Projects fail for a variety of reasons all the time... and people lose money. If you can't raise private capital, then its probably got a VERY good chance of not returning its investment. Morally, I'm okay (and you may not be) with CERTAIN projects that don't return their investment... like food banks, shelters, hospitals etc... as I DO see a benefit to society as a whole of not having people starving or spreading disease... but just as charity Hospitals will mend your broken leg, but they won't do liposuction on you... Welfare shouldn't pay for OPTIONS... like having MORE kids. Compromise?? I'll buy you condoms, the morning after pill or give you some form of birth control. You want another child?? YOU pay for it.

I agree...The problem with the welfare state is that it lumps the deserving needy together with freeriders. Private charity does a great job in actually putting resources into the hands of those that need it and they do a great job in making sure that those people actually are needy. They have the incentive to "do right by their donors" to make sure that the money is spent efficiently. If they don't and it gets out...the donors will likely go to another charity with their funds. Government bureaucrats have the exact opposite incentive...The more people on their dole that they can generate...the more money they can get to support their bureaucracy. Why would a bureaucrat want to "rid" the system of freeriders? It would be directly counterproductive to keeping a job.

I fully support charity as a means to helping people. Americans are the most generous people on earth as a nation. If so much income was not extracted from us to prop up the bureaucracies...we would do even more..not less charitable contribution.

Milton Friedman used to ask people to give him proof that government social programs did not produce the opposite effect of the initial goal.
No one could.

03-lmfao That's all well and fine - I'll live with that. Most of my experiences with individual A$M alums or students have been good. But, the indoctrination and traditions make me 03-puke

.

I don't even know why we are worrying about it ...

I figure within 2 Years, we will have an entirely new set of Dogma/Mantra's/Manifesto's to recite from and will forcibly moved away from any form of Independent Americanism's like "Individual Patriotism".

We may even have a new Flag by the Great Immaculate Anniversary Day of November 4th.

I figure it will look something like Reb's Sig photo, but with "The Little god" in the Lead Image - -

He is No Follower after all and he gets into "Tizzy's". 03-lmfao 03-lmfao 03-lmfao

You have to love the unabashed arrogance and unapologetic 'Better-Than-Thou' facade this guy lays on as thick as Maple Syrup.
