RE: Clark Atlanta Game Thread
Owls win by 10 points in a hard fought game. McConnell and JMac are players of the game...and Clark Atlanta was a pretty good team. That had some really good guards, and some athletic big men. There is a reason they almost beat Georgia State, and they gave us a tough run tonight. Good game by the young Owls. This is a good win for us.

Man that was one hell of a game. Though i dont remember his name or number..but in the second half, some guy from Clark Atlanta intentionally kicked Jmac in the balls when he was on the ground. It was a disgrace and right in front of the Ref, and still no call.

RE: Clark Atlanta Game Thread
AHHH That is what pissed JMac off so bad. I remember the play...JD was on the ground going after the ball, and JMac slid to try and grab it, and then when Clark Atlanta went back down the court JMac was ALL OVER the ref. I thought he was going to get a technical, and I couldn't figure out what he was so pissed about.

In addition, Kelvin McConnell was the recipient of a wicked forearm with 2 seconds left to go in the game that was completely uncalled for. Clark Atlanta played a hard fought game, and ruined it with 2 cheap shots. Hopefully their coaches take care of that, because that should not be allowed by a coaching staff. I can guarantee you that our staff wouldn't put up with that from a player. College basketball is more than winning and losing - but it sure is a lot of fun when you win :) Thanks for the info Owlzfan84. Any other thoughts on the game. I thought that JMac held the team together tonight. Played tough the entire night, and was the only person on our team that could hold onto a rebound.

RE: Clark Atlanta Game Thread
Game notes, the crowd sucked till the end. Seriously there were no students at all there which really disapointed me. I thought since it was a weeknight, the students would come.

Other notes, the coach saw the lowblow cheap shot and did nothing.

We also had a MC at the game. He was going through the crowd hyping the crowd up. It was kinda cool in a way.

I felt Jmac was the MVP of the game tonight. Statistically it was Kelvin, but Jmac showed a lot of composure and maturity for not going after that guy who gave him that cheap low blow. it was a crucial point in the game, and he could of easily gone after him and got a technical foul. He also rebounded extremely well, held his own on defense, and hit some clutch baskets when we started shooting poor. He was the reason we pulled out the win.

They have to recruit some rough characters to be competitive. I don't blame them for that, but that if the coaching staff is going to do that, then they have to hold those guys responsible for their actions. Kicking someone in the marbles when they are on the ground should get a pretty severe punishment in my mind. Anyway - I am just glad that we got a win.

Good win. I was also happy to see Woods hit a few three pointers as the game went on. Those guards from Clark Atlanta were pretty fast guys...

RE: Clark Atlanta Game Thread
Though we dished out 70 points, It was a little bit of a frustrating game for me. We held the ball a lot. I understand that's what you're going to get with Ingle, but it seemed like we did a lot more against CAU than the other two games we've played. They were a good team, the one player, I don't even remember now who he was (maybe #44), could jump. He's the one that had all their dunks. As far as being a scrappy team, I was surprised when the PA announcer was calling out their lineup and three of the starting five were from the Bronx, New York and another from Philadelphia. Oh well, a win's a win. Let's see how we do on the road on friday in Virginia against James Madison. It should be a good road test for us early in the season.

A couple of side notes:

#1 Has anyone ever been able to catch a game on 1230/1340 the supertalk station? every time I've tried it's been out of range or whatever and all static. I've tried to find it online but it appears the station doesn't broadcast over the internet.

#2 I'm anxious to hear about Markeith. At this point, having already missed so much time, whether cleared to play or not, it wouldn't surprise me one bit if he is redshirted. I don't know though, any other news on him?

oh and one more thing...is that not the quietest 31 points you'll ever see or what? I know Kelvin was having a good game, but his numbers threw me off a little.

and just because I was curious: Attendance for a midweek game -- 973

attendance sucked. I dont know if striped crew died, but i havent seen them at all this year.

And who here nearly had a heart attack when late in the game kelvin had an easy layup and chose to pass it up to chew up a couple more seconds off the clock. I mean we were still in the one in one bonus.

RE: Clark Atlanta Game Thread
I have no idea what it is about KSU attendance. I've been deeply involved with it for years now, helping Striped Crew do their thing and marketing on campus before I graduated. As far as Striped Crew is concerned, they're still around. Going through some transitions with the organizations structure especially being under the athletic department.

I just don't get it. Students don't care one way or the other about KSU basketball. There's no loyalty to the program, no buzz around campus and this is after marketing blitzes. No one cares as much to look up our record before coming to the game IF they come at all.

I mean, working at the athletic department at a school that has classes like Sports Marketing, Health Fitness for Sports (trainers or whatever they call it), and other high level sport specific jobs should be a key for finding great talent in a school of 20k+.

Volunteers have to be begged to come to a game they're not working. Students don't tell each other what they're doing because it may look uncool to be at the best entertainment package the school has to offer (no offense to the Fine Arts).

I'm not saying give up, but there's hardly a demand for sports at Kennesaw. Everyone's too busy watching Monday Night Football or going to Athens to get their drink on.

One last pet peeve of mine, STOP SCHEDULING HOLIDAY GAMES!

RE: Clark Atlanta Game Thread
My best guess as to why we were slowing it down at the end is because our bigs were in serious foul trouble (Polo fouled out, JMac ended up with 4) and Allison and Gibson were completely ineffective in the post. Considering the trouble we had rebounding and in the post it looked as though Ingle was trying to make sure that he didn't give Clark Atlanta extra possessions to foul JMac out. If he had gone down and either Gibson or Allison had been left in the post we would have been sitting ducks. If you noticed when Polo fouled out Ingle went with an all guard+JMac lineup, because he the other bigs were playing so poorly.

Haven't heard anything on Markeith or Mitchell. That probably isn't good, as it is very obvious that JMac and Polo need help in the post. Man it is going to be nice next year to have Mitchell, JMac, Polo, Ladaris, and Heramb...all in the post. This year will be another struggle down there, but if we could just get either Mitchell or Markeith back it would make a huge difference.

I agree KB. Just one more big body and I think we'll get by ok. Get well soon Mitchell and Cummings. As for Markeith, if he isn't cleared this year could he be cleared for next season? How serious is it? Wish the best for both these guys.

I am sure that whatever it is, that they could get him ready by next season, but I sure hope both can play this year...especially Mitchell.

Man i try so hard to get students to come to the game. I ask my friends if they want to come and its like pulling teeth. People are still in that mindset that were like a junior college and that if you're not UGA it doesnt matter. I will ask anywhere between 3-10 of my friends if they want to go and usually i end up going by myself. Its pathetic.

On a side note, i thought it was pretty cool that walmart had some KSU shirts. pretty cool ones to.

Keep up the good work guys, that is all I can say. One day they will join the crowd, and all these people that didn't come in the beginning will pretend like they supported the Owls from day one...just because they came to the ETSU game 2 years ago. Once the grace period is over, things will be different, until then keep plugging away, and I can tell you that as a fellow Owl fan I am grateful of what you are doing.

Winning creates a buzz. Its simple really. We don't have the team to generate overly large crowds right now because very few care enough to support the team while its growing. Things will get better and better from here on out.

I agree winning will help a lot. But at the end of the day, a school with as many students living on campus as we have on a tuesday night, there should of had been more students at the game. if you put all the students together including the band, it would of filled up maybe 1/4th of an endzone section.

It's a decent product. I don't know why it's so hard to get people to come out. Hockey on the other hand pulls roughly the same 1000-2000 person crowd without advertising at all and their games are at 10 oclock. Maybe it's cause they're playing Georgia and Tennessee and teams with SEC names. I don't know. I've all but thrown my hands up in the air honestly.

RE: Clark Atlanta Game Thread
Students are going to have to drive attendance at these games -- it really shocked me how few students showed up for the Clark Atlanta game. But I'm also amazed at how little KSU has done in terms of outreach to alumni and the local Kennesaw/Acworth/Marietta and surrounding communities. The $65 price tag for a season ticket for alumni is a great deal, but it hasn't been promoted at all, unless you're already looking for tickets on the ksuowls.com web site. Especially in today's economy, the University needs to take a proactive approach in selling the program to people who live near the campus, reinforcing that this is their team and showing everyone how much entertainment value they can get for 65 or 100 bucks a season. I'd be willing to pitch in for free to help do this (my background is sales and marketing), but I'm not sure who's even "driving the bus" for sports marketing.

Okay, okay ... off my soapbox now. Some of you have already said it -- when KSU is competing regularly for the A-Sun conference championship and making trips to the big dance, the place will be full and everyone will say that they were "always" fans. :-)

Go Owls!
