This was the problem in a nutshell.

The problem was that they were in the wrong conference.

With 20 20 hindsight Army fits best in today's MAC.

Quote:Yes, Army's streak of losing seasons is older than my son. And remember that Army has a whole different set of recruiting challenges that your run-of-the-mill university couldn't even dream of. So turning it around isn't simply a matter of hiring a high-profile coach and recruiting better.

A guaranteed trip to Iraq or Afghanistan on graduation is a pretty hard sell. Navy doesn't have that issue for the most part.

I thought when BG played in the West it was really good for the conference.

1. BG-UT rivalry was huge playing for the division.
2. BG vs. anyone was a name game for the opposing team.
3. BG's attendance appeared to be better playing in the West.

I would like to see BG back to the West and Eastern Michigan to the East to break up the Michigan schools better.

That is a very good point specifically about Army.

I know a lot of Navy grads and they did at one time say that they couldn't compete with prestige of an Air Force career. They feared that Notre Dame would one day drop them from the schedule who over the years has been a big recruiting advantage for them.

Notre Dame is so weak that at this point they need Navy on the schedule to pad the win total.

This is "necessary but not sufficient" for either to join the MAC.

Then by moving the Army/Navy game back a week does that throw off the release BCS standings by 1 week?

Or does the BCS release its standings after conference championship weekend anyways just to insult?

Army has a bowl tie in now (Congressional). No need to join MAC. They have no trouble scheduling. Their revenues would not improve. Their visibility is fine, thank you very much.

That Congresional tie-in is a shared bowl between Navy.

What if both are eligible?

What if none are eligible?

It would make sense for the MAC to get involved as the backup conference for a couple of Army/Navy bowl arrangements.
