Latest Unsubstantiated Rumor - Biden to Step Down!
Just got an interesting email "ALERT": Don't know if it has any basis in fact, but given that this is the rumors/posturing board, I figured I'd toss it out there for comment. I do note that SNOPES says it is undetermined at this point. See Snopes on VP Candidate Change

Just when you think it can’t get any more weird. It does.

Rumor de jour

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is the most recent unconfirmed report/rumor I have received about Biden stepping down from the ticket.

Let me share some info with you that I have gotten from excellent sources within the DNC:

On or about October 5th, Biden will excuse himself from the ticket, citing health problems, and he will be replaced by Hillary. This is timed to occur after the VP debate on 10/2.

There have been talks all weekend about how to proceed with this info. Generally, the feeling is that we should all go ahead and get it out there to as many blog sites and personal email lists as is possible. I have already seen a few short blurbs about this - the "health problem" cited in those articles was an aneurysm. Probably many of you have heard the same rumblings.

However, at this point, with this inside info from the DNC, it looks like this Obama strategy will be a go. Therefore, it seems that the best strategy is to get out in front of this Obama maneuver, spell it out in detail, and thereby expose it for the grand manipulation that it is.

So, let's start mixing this one up and cut the Obamites off at the pass - send this info out to as many people as you can - post it on websites and blogs - etc etc

Lastly, I have put an excerpt from Rudy Giuliani's speech at the 2008 RNC below - it seems to address this very issue:

"Well, I'll tell you, if I were Joe Biden, I'd want to get that VEEP thing in writing!!! " (How Prophetic)

Fat chance. Seems too desperate of a move. Seriously - making that kind of change is going to impress the independent, swing voter? It would seem that it would be the opposite.

The aneurysm thing is an issue from his past. Sure, it could happen again. But if it is something where they have found a new potential blockage/burst site, there likely would be other issues (like massive headaches) he'd be dealing with.

I'd put this on a 1 out of 10 on the believability scale. I'm surprised they posted it.

There may be some "Buyer's Remorse" in the DNC over Biden...

First there was the "duty to pay higher taxes" and now this little gem...

Biden ought to stick to plagiarism, because lately its "Open mouth... Insert Biden" The term "forced down" usually means "shot down"...This ranks right up with Kerry's embellishment of a "firefight" story back in Vietnam, or Hillary with the Bosnian sniper...

The Story Behind Biden's Emergency Helicopter Landing in Afghanistan
September 22, 2008 6:19 PM

"Ladies and gentlemen, where are we now? Where are we now?" Sen. Joe Biden, D-Del., said to the National Guard Association today, talking about the war in Afghanistan.

"If you want to know where Al Qaeda lives, you want to know where Bin Laden is, come back to Afghanistan with me," Biden said. "Come back to the area where my helicopter was forced down, with a three-star general and three senators at 10,500 feet in the middle of those mountains. I can tell you where they are."

Biden said that Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., "says he’ll follow them to the gates of hell. You don’t have to go to hell. Just go to Pakistan. Just go to that area. That superhighway of terror that exists between Afghanistan and Pakistan."

We hadn't heard before about Biden's helicopter being forced down, so we did some Googling.

After all, earlier this month at a fundraiser, he made a similar remark, when discussing how he doesn't care about the Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's controversies like whether she sold a state plane on eBay, or when she went from supporting to opposing the Bridge to Nowhere.

"What I care about is: What in God's name is she going to do -- along with John McCain -- about the thousands of people who don't have health care?" Biden said according to the Chicago Sun-Times. Biden said he would ask Palin about "The superhighway of terror between Pakistan and Afghanistan where my helicopter was forced down...John McCain wants to know where Bin Laden and the gates of Hell are? I can tell him where. That's where Al Qaeda is. That's where Bin Laden is. It's not in the country of Iraq."

In February 2008, Biden -- along with Sens. John Kerry, D-Mass., and Chuck Hagel, R-Neb. -- was on a chopper that made an emergency landing in the mountains of Afghanistan.

A snowstorm had forced them down.

No one was injured, and the Associated Press reported at the time that "the senators and their delegation returned to Bagram Air Base in a motor convoy, and left for Turkey.

"The weather closed in on us," Kerry told the AP at the time in a phone interview from Turkey. "It went pretty blind, pretty fast and we were around some pretty dangerous ridges. So the pilot exercised his judgment that we were better off putting down there, and we all agreed...We sat up there and traded stories."

Kerry joked, "We were going to send Biden out to fight the Taliban with snowballs, but we didn't have to do it…Other than getting a little cold, it was fine."

That's what they get for buying that helicopter on eBay.

This won't get any coverage because of conservative Republican ideology of running the economy and Wall Street is going to get even worse before it gets better. If you happen to notice that we are in a recession to depression stage in the economy.

You can't run away from 30 years of an ideology of deregulation in both Wall Street and Washington just because you have a stupid voting base that votes GOP.

The GOP will try to rewrite history, but it won't happen, not under our watch.

Holy Crap, it's an epidemic!!!!!!

Just read this headline from earlier this month in the Sydney Morning Herald:
"'Absolute circus' as Qantas jet forced down" (http://www.smh.com.au/news/travel/absolu...83212.html)

Not only did they clearly misuse the term "forced down" (no shooting involved WHATsoever; the plane just a had a little engine trouble so they decided to land), but there was ABSOLUTELY NOT a circus involved in any way!!1!!!111 Nope, not a single a friggin' clown! Not even one of those crazy cirque-du-soleil clowns that can do one-armed-handstand pushups. Clowns should NOT be able to do gymnastics!! That's just freaky.

Jumping the shark this soon? McCain's internal polling must be horrible. Wait until October 15th before pulling out the swiftie crap . . .

Gee, I wonder if McCain wishes he'd stuck to his frame of experience v. risk just about now. Romeny or even Leiberman would be looking pretty presidential about now.

But wait, there's more....

"Joe Biden's denunciation of his own campaign's ad to Katie Couric got so much attention last night that another odd note in the interview slipped by.

He was speaking about the role of the White House in a financial crisis.

"When the stock market crashed, Franklin Roosevelt got on the television and didn't just talk about the princes of greed," Biden told Couric. "He said, 'Look, here's what happened.'"

As Reason's Jesse Walker footnotes it: "And if you owned an experimental TV set in 1929, you would have seen him. And you would have said to yourself, 'Who is that guy? What happened to President Hoover?'"

ttp://www.politico.com/blogs/bensmith/0908/Biden_garbles_Depression_history.html?showall

And STILL even more!!!!! Its almost too obvious... ! He can't be this disorganized...

Some great rope line video from Joe Biden's recent Ohio swing, where he was asked by an anti-pollution campaigner about clean coal -- a controversial approach in Democratic circles for which Obama has voiced support, particularly during the Kentucky primary.

Biden's apparent answer: He supports clean coal for China, but not for the United States.

"No coal plants here in America," he said. "Build them, if they're going to build them, over there. Make them clean."

"We’re not supporting clean coal," he said of himself and Obama. They do, on paper, support clean coal.

The answer seems to play into John McCain's case that Obama has been saying "no" to new sources of energy.

In the primary, Biden opposed Obama's push for clean coal, which is seen as a way of maintaining or expanding America's coal-burning power plants -- many of which are in rust belt swing states.

"I don't think there's much of a role for clean coal in energy independence, but I do think there's a significant role for clean coal in the bigger picture of climate change," he told Grist last year. "Clean-coal technology is not the route to go in the United States, because we have other, cleaner alternatives," he said, but added that America should push for a "fundamental change in technology" to clean up China's plants.

Woohoo, today's the big day right? October 5, the day Biden gets replaced. Been waiting for this one for weeks!

Oh crap, I just got an e-mail with an (unsubstantiated) update on the situation:

"Apparently, the Biden-to-be replaced rumor was staged by the DNC in an effort to ferret out leaks within their organization, while at the same time making the rabid right base look like a bunch of credulous dupes. Well-placed DNC sources believe the gambit to have been highly successful."

[Sure, I happened to send the e-mail to myself, but I _did_ get an e-mail that said it!]

As I've posted elsewhere, this quote was taken out of context. What he said next was "Now, Who's with me?!?" and he then rushed out of the room...

My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who saw Joe Biden quit the campaign at 31 Flavors last night.
