SPEEDING IN TENNESSEE

1) Good :
A Knoxville , TN policeman had a perfect spot to watch for speeders, but wasn't getting many. Then he discovered the problem. A twelve-year-old boy was standing up the road with a hand-painted sign, which read 'RADAR TRAP AHEAD'. The officer then found a young accomplice down the road with a sign reading 'TIPS' . . And a bucket full of money. (And we kid s used to just sell lemonade!)

2) Better:
A motorist was mailed a picture of his car speeding through an automated radar post in Nashville , TN . A $40 speeding ticket was included. Being cute, he sent the police department a picture of $40. The police responded with another mailed photo of handcuffs.

3) Absolute Best:
A young woman was pulled over for speeding. As the Tennessee State Trooper walked to her car window, flipping open his ticket book, she said, 'I bet you're going to sell me a ticket to the State Troopers Ball.' He replied 'Tennessee State Troopers don't have balls.' There was a moment of silence while she smiled, and he realized what he'd just said. He then closed his book, got back in his patrol Car and left. She was laughing too hard to start her car.

Haha, that was a good laugh. I thought the second one was the funniest. BTW, I just got my first ticket about a week ago for going "58" in a 45. Now I know for a fact that I was only going 45 because I had my cruise control on 45. I told the officer that but he didn't seem to listen and I didn't feel like arguing. He must have clocked the dude coming up behind me or something. Something funny about those moving radars that add speed though so I don't know. What would be the best thing for me to do? Go ahead and pay it or show up for my court date? What are the chances it gets dismissed if I choose to go to the court date?

go to court, its your first ticket so they will probably dismiss it and you just pay court costs. they did that for me at least a couple years ago...

I had that happen to me once except I went to jail. Except the part about the pigeons and the wreck and I had a suspended liscense. But the rest is the same.

4) A TN state trooper was hanging out in his speed trap when all a sudden this kid went flying by him. The trooper takes off after him and pulls him over and looks in the car and says, son i've been waiting for you all day.. and the kid looks up at him and said.. well sir, I got here as quick as i could....

A friend of mine, who is one sharp cookie, received a speeding ticket in Florida, and in Florida they don't just dismiss the ticket and let you pay court costs. So he mails in the ticket with his personal check for $1 more than the cost of the ticket. The clerk sends him a notice that he had overpaid, along with a check for the difference. My friend never cashed the check and, therefore, the clerk never closed out the file, he received no points against his license, nor did his insurance company find out.

If you show up for court, they will normally dismiss it with costs (I think costs are $65.00) without your having to do anything more than show up. Court will open up at 9:00 or 1:30 but get there early as the lines are really, really long. Make sure you have the right date. The dates read, for instance, "the 13th day of August, 2008." However, the way the police fill out the ticket, that would be real easy to read as August 8th (since the year is 20__ and they fill out the 08) if you don't read it carefully.

If you miss your court date, then they are far less forgiving about the whole dismiss it with costs thing.
