such a contributor - a real research hound to know so much about so many players from far away.
but also impressive in the way he carried himself.

I'm usually not a long post writer, but here goes.
Both the Lewiston Tribune and the Moscow Daily News, both Idaho papers carried the obit.
Plus, there is a small pic.
William Thomas Mays
52, Troy resident
William Thomas Mays (Homan) died August 26. He was born Jan. 13, 1955 in Parsons, Tn., to Dwight and Doris Mays. His father died when he was 3 years old. He moved to the Pacific Northwest at age 7 with his mother, adoptive father and sister. He graduated from Caldwell HS in Caldwell, Id. He earned a bachelor's in history and English from the U. of Memphis. He received a teaching fellowship in English fron the U. of Tenn. and earned a master's. He then receieved a doctoral fellowship at WSU. He taught English at Memphis and tutored in Latin. He taught English as a second language in China, Colombia, and Turkey. He especially enjoyed his last assignment in Ankara, Turkey, where he taught for several years. He remained in contact with many colleagues and students from that assignment.
He was forced to retire because of an incurable and untreatable condition called Ankylosing Spondylitis. He had lived for several years with his parents Hugh and Doris Homan in Troy, Id.
Tom had many interests and hobbies. He was an avid sports fan, both as a participant and later as an observer. His favorites were football, basketball, baseball, soccer, hockey, tennis, golf, etc. He closely followed sports at his alma maters--Memphis, UT, and WSU. He enjoyed reading books, especially the classics, and had an extensive collection of rare books. He was interested in current events and world affairs and kept abreast by reading many newspapers and magazines on the internet, prefering the Seattle Times and the Jerusalem Post. He was a strong environmentalist and while a supporter of our troops, Tom was an active critic of the war in Iraq.
He loved animals, espeially his dog Daisy. He was a birder and enjoyed watching all birds. Even as his health deterioated, he faithfully fed the quall and pheasants. Although he was in constant pain and discomfort for many years, he retained an active mind and positive attitude.
He is survived by his parents, a sister and her husband, Jana and Tim Batt, and their daughter, Amber, of Nampa, Id.; and a sister and her husband, Julie and Ricky Love of Ft. Lewis, Wash.
The family suggests memorials be made to an animal shelter or charity of choice. At Tom's request, no public service is planned.

This is my first time posting on anything so I hope I get this right.
Iwent to school with Tom when we were at Memphis State.
He is/was my best friend. I lost track of him when he went overseas
and was not able to find. My heart is broken over this and I am going
to miss him more knowing I will never get to see him again. Once I
get over this I will try to tell more about him if anyone is interested.

The last visit from our good friend was the first day of a new year. I hope his new year brought him some kind of comfort.
